How much cap are Preds eating?
In principle I don't think the Preds would care too much about eating a full 50% if it got them a good enough return. Even though it'd be their final retention slot. I'm just not sure that McDonagh even at $3.375M for 3 years gets them much of a return? :dunno:

The team ostensibly wanted him for veteran leadership, not as a trade chip or even all that much for his on-ice performance, so I suspect the offers will be underwhelming enough that he's not going to move. Plus he has the NTC.

34 years old, 3 years remaining at 6.75M, owed almost 20M, full NTC next 2 years, then modified 16 team his last season. Unless Nashville is eating a couple Mil, I don't see many teams lining up for him.

Does the NTC still exist considering he already waived it once? I always forget how this works.
I believe it's still in place and he'd have to waive it again. CapFriendly still lists him as having one (submits a 12 team no trade list in his case)

Given that the Senators just got slapped for not honouring Dadonov's, Nashville should tread carefully here.

At full price:

Depends on how bad of a contract Nashville is taking back.

At half price:

Not enough to make tieing up our last retention spot for 2 years worth it.

For better or worse, we are likely keeping him.

Tampa got out just at the right time.
He's not a bad player. You wouldn't want him at $6.75M, of course. But Tampa gave him away just due to their own Cap issues, I don't think either side ever had any illusions about where he was at vs. his contract. Preds knowingly and intentionally took a "veteran leader" #4/5D at around a 2X Cap premium, which is still what he is today, because they could get him for free.
