Wow this is awesome news. As has been made clear in the past, I am very high on this player. A smooth skating defenseman who can move the puck will fit in perfectly on this blue line. More importantly, he is actually a good defender, unlike many of our offense first guys.

I think he will be a Sabre for a long time, and his signing sets up our D quite nicely for the future.

Samuelsson-Dahlin
Power-XXX
Johnson-XXX

He might need a season in the AHL, but my expectation is he will work his way onto the mains before 23-24 is over.

I wonder how Johnson might pair with Power, chemistry would be key

I think we been pretty happy with Stillman-Boosh recently

To me, he’s sort of anonymous, but in a good way, I think. Not big, not small. Not great offensively, but can and does move the puck… once in a while, very well, but only shows flashes. Very good, but short of an excellent skater. Not particularly feisty or strong, but not weak or soft. Makes sound plays- mental game is good, but nothing brilliant. On the plus side, he doesn’t do dumb shit…something to be said for that.

I really have no idea how he will do in the NHL. Wouldn’t be shocked if he’s a career AHL’er, or as high as a #4 D in the NHL. If care and patience are taken with his development he might end up being something.

If this sounds pessimistic, then I also think that Faber is overrated. I hope I am wrong.

Yeah, there could be some Greg Brown to him if it goes poorly.

Since we drafted him I have really really hoped he would be our Jonas Brodin
I don't see the unreal composure that Brodin had even as a young player, but I can see the possibility of him being 80% of Brodin defensively, and maybe 20% better offensively...which would be pretty damn good. That's a real longshot, though.

Keep in mind that by the end of Brodin's D+4 season, he had already played 2 1/2 NHL seasons, most of them on the first pairing, while RJ might have 4-5 gp, probably on the bottom pairing.

I am pleased that now everyone in this thread will become a BU fan for the next week so that Johnson gets eliminated sooner and can sign his deal sooner.
Eh, it's only two days. Better you have a happy, successful Johnson, than a bummed out one.

KA must have Faith in him should we get on s roll to not trade for help..

You would think right? I mean that's what I kept telling myself was that he didn't go top 4 so that RJ would keep a clear path and if he wasn't going to fix goaltending immediately, may as well hold off on D for a long term gain

I think it was less about Johnson and more about Adams not wanting to give up Savoie or Kulich in a deal for a D like Chychrun.

As far as Chyk goes but there was other lower profile guys that wouldn't demand that price. Just the full circle evaluation season I suppose.

Adams was fixated on guys that were under team control beyond this season as shown by his two TDL adds being Greenway and Stillman who are signed beyond this season and RFAs when their current deals expire.

There were not a lot of top 4 D that were signed long term that moved at the TDL.

Does this officially tip the ROR trade into a Sabres win?

Tongue n cheek and don't need to go down that road but man. What a turn of events going from one of the worst trades ever, to a true win win. I even forgot we got Aleksandr Kisakov in the trade as well.

And regardless of his struggles this year, Bryson is still in the mix. For as much as his play cratered this year, it's not unheard of for a guy to just have a down year. Maybe he bounces back in a big way. Possibly. Is it likely? No. But it's possible.
he has to be a lot better than his peers to earn a spot, his size just makes him ineffective if he is struggling, he cant clear the net, I rather play a physical type on the 3rd pair.
in order if there is no move or signing: Lubu, Joker, Stillman, Bryson

He plays a pro ready game. This alone gives him an edge on Bryson.
I really dont like Bryson but I wouldnt make that assumption before he played his first pro game

Just for clarity - the Sabres used the 2021 2nd rounder from that deal and their own 2022 5th rounder to trade for Colin Miller. The Kisakov pick was the return for Hall and eating Bjork's contract.
