I'm too lazy to watch full games these days (f***in ads), but just went through an hour of Mickhov (and flyers I guess) highlights, and he looks so comfortable out there. Insane offensive vision.

I still hold hope for Carlsson to become sort of Malkin-lite(+lite), and if he reaches that I'm good.. but man, Michkov, what a freaking player. My expectations were already high, and he's exceeded them, and then some.

Almost straight from Giroux to Mickhov.. good for the Flyers!

Nice post, I do think Michkov is a better prospect and will be a better player than Giroux, I remember watching Giroux at Gatineau and just knew he'd be awesome but there's definitely levels when it comes to prospects! As it sits right now, I think the Ducks probably made the right choice picking Carlsson over Fantilli.

I think so too. Giroux was (IS!) awesome, but Michkov has that something *extra* in him. I think it's still way too early for Carlsson v Fantilli debate, and I don't want to derail the thread..

However I'm also glad for Russian hockey. Do I get banned if I say I wish them to return to international circle again? All the talent they have it's cool to imagine Michkov playing with Ovechkin, Kucherov, Kaprizov.. I bet Finland still kicks their ass, so hurry up and get them back. This is stupid and it's enough already.

To keep this on Michkov; good for him, I always saw a bit of Selanne in him, but the way he's transitioned to playmaking is marvelous. You can't teach that vision.

I think Russia always had a better players than Finland but as a team Finland has been better most of the times.
There was time when Finland didn't have a single elite (non-goalie) player but still outperformed Russia on International stage. But now Finland actually has a an elite forwards like Barkov, Aho, Rantanen and a elite dman in Heiskanen. Dark times gone for Finland.

Against primarily 1st liners. Not 3rd liners like Michkov. Usage argument doesn’t work when you have tougher competition and Michkov gets a ton of PP1 time.

Michkov >> Celebrini offensively and its not really close, Michkov thinks the game on another level. Producing at PPG with much less help and ice time is indicative of that.

Michkov dropping to 7 at the draft still puzzles me. Rarely have i been so sure that a prospect will succeed. It was always 1a/1b between Michkov and Bedard. Stupid GMs but awesome for the Flyers.
On a side note: looks like Tortorella knows what he is doing. I think it's pretty smart what Philly is doing, no reason playing him 20+ minutes when he never played 50 games in his career. It's a long season especially for rookies. They are not repeating last year's mistake when they overplayed Couturier after missing 2 seasons.

Especially given the fact (and it can't be stated enough how conflicted I am writing these words) there is a non-0 chance PHI might make the play-offs.

I don't always buy the narrative about less or more icetime. More icetime could lead to exhaustion and did not convert to more points at all. Michkov was actually suffering from that for a period.
Maybe the time he's getting now is the right dosage for him at this stage of his career.

Yes, exactly. That's what i think too. He looked tired before his benching but 1 week rest was great for him apparently and the Flyers started winning games.

Why would Chi play Bedard 20 mins a game when he clearly cant handle it and would benefit from playing 14 mins until hes more mature

Well this is gonna open a whole can of worms with the Habs fanbase lol geez. At least they got Demidov, might be the most talented offensive player in his draft class. I never thought or believed he chose Philly exclusively. It's not like Philly is just the best city ever, Montreal has a massive fan base and he'd of been loved and given rockstar treatment in that city.

Complete and utter stud. Very happy I have him in my keeper league - drafted him 2nd overall this this past draft behind Celebrini. The Russian Prince stack of Kaprizov and Michkov for the next decade is lovely.

It is wild how good of a passer and playmaker Michkov is in the NHL. His passes are almost always perfect. Placement, speed, and he catches players when they're not expecting it. His goal-scoring was the thing that was supposed to stand out, and it does, but his passing has been incredible. Once his line-mates get used to being ready for whatever he throws at them, his numbers will jump up even more. I think right now, we are seeing some of that translate into his 5v5 production over the past few weeks.
I never got the impression that goal-scoring was his defining characteristic as prospect. He did score a lot of goals, but that was a side effect of world-class hockey IQ, and not the overpowering kind of shot that would label him a "goal scorer" in the mold of Ovechkin, Stamkos, Matthews, etc.

The passing is the least surprising part of his game to me, being the other side of the hockey IQ coin. I have said before that I believe the majority of drafts do not contain a single player who thinks the game as well as he does. I'm not a fan of the g-word, but he has a feel for the game that only comes around every 5-10 years on average, IMO.

Still, I'm impressed at how productive he has been so quickly, given the pedestrian skating. I hope that power-skating is the main focus of his off-season. The sky is the limit for him.

Clearly Bobrov didn't think highly of MM. Whomever he talks to in Russia, gave him the wrong impression. Maybe Rottenberg?
