I wouldn't agree with saying any player, of any position, in any league, for any particular skill, is "already the best X in the world" after 25 games of a rookie season. Not Bedard, not McDavid, not Crosby. Let alone something as nebulous as "blue paint scorer." How do you even measure that? Show me the shot charts, show me that Michkov is scoring more in the blue paint area than anyone else, show me that he's doing it at a higher difficulty / shooting%, show me anything at all that isn't pure opinion, and I would still say, "that's awesome, let's see if he can keep it up beyond this small sample size of 25 games. He's great at it so far, but let's see more evidence before we call him the best in the world."
And that's where we disagree. I don't think there's some initiation needed. Michkov has been playing high level hockey for like 3 or 4 years. His game is well known. It's pretty easy to watch him play against kids, see how he plays, and then watch him against adults, and see how his game differs compared to against kids to get an idea of the changes. We already have seasons of data on his game. He is a prolific goal scorer. One of the most accomplished of the early 2000's generation. Literally just watch any highlight video, and you'll see the majority of his goals come by being better near the net than other players. It's not like this is such a distinguished title either.

Ovechkin scores his goals by shooting the puck harder and more accurate. Matthews scores in every possible way. Bedard has the shot power and release. McDavid scores his goals by being simply better and more skilled. The best players around the crease are players like Kreider and Pavelski, who aren't even prolific goal-scorers. They might score 30-40 a year. Michkov probably would already score 30+ this year, if we look at how Bedard is playing, and assume he'd do pretty similar.

There's no "data" to give you. I don't run an analytics company. It's a strange ask on your part. How about debating the point? If you disagree, I got no issue with that, yet you haven't really refuted my point or told me who you think is better. You've merely said on principle you don't think he could be the best yet, and part of it is for some warped logic that he plays hockey in the wrong league.

Remember how you were completely against Igor Shestyorkin when he was setting records for SKA.

How has that turned out?
Was I? Don't remember that, and it would be out of character for me, since I usually don't evaluate goalies

I remember mocking you for overhyping Rangers russian prospects, at that time, they were 3: Kravtsov, Shestyorkin and Rykov. Out of this 3 Shestyorkin was the biggest enigma due to his position, I was never high on Kravtsov, but Rykov was obviously the most weird object of your hype job))

Yes, you were a big proponent of Koskinen, and cautioned not to get excited about Shestyorkin breaking KHL records. Someone who actually watched the KHL at the time might've told you to watch the games. SKA was a product of him, if anything, not the other way around, but you didn't listen.

And to clarify, I never was big on Kravtsov after he was drafted and didn't play that well in the KHL, but if you are going to throw out some debunked claim about Rykov, I guess why not throw another one into the pot in addition, right? You think you can get your way by being callous with the truth, and thinking everyone else is stupid enough to not follow up on the validity your claims.

I think Torts is probably the best coach for a guy like Michkov

I hope beyond all hope that Michkov plays out his contract for SKA solely based on the fact that then Torts has no chance to interact with Michkov whatsoever, unless of course Briere offers him a new HC contract.

We do not want that darker timeline. Let's hope Briere is not that stupid.

the development guys already communicate with him over in Russia. If michkov gets here and hes ready to go it wont matter who the coach is, but im not worried if its Torts. i watch Michkov play and Torts will unlock another level of his game, not only in the defensive end where he needs it the most, but being aggressive on puck carriers in general on the forecheck. and after a few training camps he can hopefully work out his conditioning issues, he wont have to cheat the zone exits as much and he wont be gassed as often.

He finished the game with 2 points and pissed opponents who almost started a team fight after the game because of supposed Michkov's diving... Oh and Sochi won 5-2.

Its a slash and it clearly hit his face.

I don't think it's a question of Briere's competence, but of who actually is running the show. Is Briere actually a GM with full independence right now? I highly doubt it. Jones and Tortorella somehow have actual say in the long term vision of the team

Misses the game because of illness. It's the 3rd time already when he misses games because of illness this season. He misses a few games earlier this season, then misses a game a couple weeks ago and is missing the game right now.

It's either he has problems with health or he misses the game not because of illness.

A little worried. Health is the most important thing, the team should let him rest well, every time he is sick he comes back to play very quickly and doesn't have much time to rest.
Did the Russian media say he had any kind of virus?

There's a different kind of virus hitting everyone in Canada and likely across other parts of the world (such as Russia) than the typical flu (this is a flu on steroids).

I have 25% of my staff off sick, 1 person in the hospital...I got sick about 4 weeks ago and still have minor symptoms that do not go away as they would normally. I wouldn't doubt it if Michkov has something like this where you recover and then it comes back and you stay between 60%-90% for a few weeks.

PS: Also tested 3X for COVID, and each test was negative...this is something else.
