KHL is over AHL.

AHL is a development league with professional beginners and finished veterans.

The KHL offensive elite is more talented than many plodding 4th line players who compensate with physicality.

The *development* is made on the best jr players in the world and the *finished veterans* who can't make the NHL end up torching the KHL.

Marat Khusnutdinov is also sitting after missing a game earlier in the week (unclear if he was injured but it seems he was scratched). The same Khusnutdinov who had like 40 points for SKA last year.

Rotenberg is clearly out to prove something here..........

Yeah, if you're trying to go to NA soon then he won't play you.

... Michkov is there for 3 more seasons through 25-26, Demidov is done after next year 24-25, if your rationale is true then wouldn't he be playing demidov even less.

Not saying michkov isn't a talent, just that the logic doesn't track. It's more likely he goes and plays in sochi imo

What about Nikishin?
Everybody knows he’s going straight to the NHL when his contract is done.
Rotenberg gives him boatloads of ice time.

The U20 players all play in the CHL and NCAA and the European championships have a lot of hopes. So no, the best prospects in the world rarely play in the AHL and when they do, it's rarely more than one season.

Non-NHL players who have the level to play in the NHL, they are in the KHL - not the AHL.

Let not forget only 6 *finished veterans* can dress for any given AHL game

This leaves us a boatload of younger prospects who have very little chance at an NHL career taking up roster spots.

Is it weird that Demidov is getting more games than him?
I think Demidov plays a more complete game.

Edit: That doesn't mean Demidov is better than Michkov, but he's easier to plug and play on any line for a coach. He's effective as a bottom liner as an "energy" forward who stays on the good side of the puck.

I don't follow SKA too much but where is Michkov on the depth charts currently? Is he better than enough guys to at least lock down a 3rd line spot?

This is getting ridiculous. Buddy is oozing with talent. I don't buy the argument that they're sitting him out of spite because he's going to NA in three years, because why sign him in the first place if that's how you're going to treat him?

Only if 12 forwards are currently better than Michkov I understand.

They already got him to sign another deal last year for another 2 years in the KHL.

Yea, but he's an anchor back there and a Dman which is completely different.

So if you're good enough SKA will play you regardless of your NHL aspirations?

These conspiracy theories are getting tiresome aka:

"The KHL benches NHL bound players; er, uh, unless (insert countless amounts of reasons). But I KNOW (insert favorite prospect) is being jerked around! He wants to go to the NHL!"

To be fair, last year Khusnutdinov was put in an ideal situation because of injuries. Anybody’s point totals will skyrocket if they center Gusev and Jaskin who are pinnacle level players in any league not named the NHL. Correct though, Khusnutdinov should at least be in the lineup.

Maybe he’s dealing with an injury. Who knows. In his last press conference Rotenberg said a bunch of guys are injured.
