Russia will fail in the World Cup 2016?

It was a very frustrating display today, indeed. I hope that we'll do better next year.
 
I thought Russia played pretty well in this tourney. I'm not sure they could have done much more today, they came out strong. Once Finland got the lead they sat back and became a wall. I hope Canada remembers this for tomorrow, you can't get behind on the Finns.

Russia has nothing to be ashamed about. No fail here.
 
I didn't think the Russian team played that bad. A couple bounces here and there and the score could have been different.

Russia ran into a very good Finnish team. They still have a bronze medal to play for against the Americans.
 
I guess it depends on your definition of fail.

I don't think they have much of a shot of winning so if not winning the whole thing is failure then yes I think they will.

But in my view a more realistic view is that they should get to the SF. That means beating one of Finland or Sweden which is a tough in my view. I am not sure losing to one of those teams is a huge failure but Russia should have high standards of SF at least in every tournament.

So because I see them not making the SF I say yes they will fail.
 
Hard to say in my opinion.

After all, Russia has been the best country in the WHC since 2008, but of course best on best is a different animal itself. However, I predict Russia will beat Sweden and team NA, but will lose to Finland.

I think they will make it to the semi final in Toronto.

I'm excited to see what Russia will bring to the table on the small ice.

Russia always tries to prove a point about the KHL being a rival to the NHL in international competitions and lately it has burned them. It may not be the main reason why they lose, but it hurts their overall depth. If they make the same mistake at the World Cup, they will fail.

This is assuming everyone tries at the World Cup and it isn't seen as a pre-season tournament by the players.
 
We cannot know the future. But it is just some games and there is a lot of randomness in there.

Russia is a second tier contender behind Canada. Failing is a matter of definition, really, but Russia is a challenger with Sweden and USA. Finland always seems to upset everyone but that's their trait +3 result in international competition :P

I expect Russia to challenge for the Final with a decent chance to win it all, and I can't see them failing to do that. A loss at the semis like today, won't make it go away at the WC either. One game is just one game.

Have waves of their youth coming up.

Russia needs to devote everything to the development of grassroots Hockey, and they have. Their time will come.

It's not now.
 
With this wonky nonsensical team formation of the WC is Russia just some of Russia, just all of Russia, or most of Europe? I forget.

Who the hell wants supremacy in any sport decided by 3 games?

You can tell a lot of a man in that one game. One Chance, make most of it.

I prefer a 3 game final series, honestly. Typically the better team will win that way. A lot of issues with the tournament but the 3 game final was a great idea
 
Nobody should care about the World Cup. It is an afront to international competition. I won't be watching it.

That said, Russia won't win it.

I wouldn't call the 1984 and 1987 Canada Cups or 1998 Olympics a failure. They were very close to winning it
 
Znaroks was great, but it seems players are getting bigger than the coach (what happens with every coach team Russia has had). Maybe they should try a new guy.

I will be pretty much Canada's A team. USA will be hurt by 2 or 3 of their U24's missing. Everyone else will have their A teams basically. And Team Europe and Team NA Young Gunz should be pretty damn good. So its VERY CLOSE to best vs best imo
