Wow.....

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko has been banned for life from attending the games. He's the guy in charge of the 2018 World Cup. If Russia want to have any credibility there, he has to resign.

Staggering amount of evidence in this case. No excuses, no "everyone does it"...because they dont.......and if you think they do, youre beyond help. If Russia wants to maintain credibility in the sporting world, they need to fire some folks.

Sad day to be a Russian sports fan.

The truth is though. USA's PED sports culture is no better. It's an industry there.

Well the entire Olympics just became less competitive. Thanks for that Russia. Went from cheating to try to give your country credibility to being an international embarrassment.

The clean ones are still allowed to compete.
Unless they are under contract in the K and they decide to not release their players.

Then we can all sit in wonder as individual players ditch their khl team to represent team Olympic athletes of Russia.

Or not.

The KHL management has said that if Russia is banned, all league players will boycott the Olympics, not just Russians. Individual players could decide to void their contracts and quit the KHL to play in the Olympics. It will be interesting to see if any will, and if so, how many?

Interesting, indeed.

Russian athletes who test clean would have the option to play under the Olympic neutral flag.

It is not about being clean in hockey. There is no doping that directly tilts the playing field in hockey, as in the individual strength (weight lifting, sprinting, jumps) and endurance (cross country skiing, distance running, cycling) sports, which is where 99% of the doping takes place.

Having thought a bit about this, I think Russia should send its athletes and maintain the KHL break. There is very little time left and the IOC's decision was timed very well to make Russia look bad.

The real decision Russia should be making is about future games, beyond Korea. As thing stand, there is too much invested in these games. The aspirations of athletes will be dashed if they are prevented from going and alienating KHL players - both domestic and foreign - can backfire.

Russia can respond. Severely. But they should be careful.

Rene Fasel has also said that if the Russian federation allows that, they will risk getting banned from all international hockey.

The iihf has no teeth, especially if the nhl tells them thanks but no thanks.

Has it come out which 14 Russian hockey players were doping at the 2014 games yet? It could be men or women so it might not be any names we know but its still troubling.

If Fasel is against blocking players, you can bet all other federations are as well and thus we have a decision since Fasel can't decide anything without other feds approval. Also, this subject matter doesn't deal with the NHL so no reason to bring your obsession into the discussion.

Just catching up on this now a bit. So its only 2 of the female hockey players who got caught with male DNA in their urine so far. Still interested about the other 12 though.

I predict the Russian players in the NHL will make a statement
