Relative to the League, Malkin's season is clearly the worst, but he also had the least talent surrounding him and had to face the top match-ups (unlike Jagr '96).

Relative to top scorers, Malkin had the highest scoring finish but also had the weakest competition. Jagr blew away everyone except Lemieux. MacKinnon only outscored McDavid (a five time Art Ross winner) by eight points but beat Panarin by 20 and Pastrnak by 30. Malkin outscored Stamkos by 12 points, Giroux by 16 and Spezza by 25.

I think it's close and you can justify picking any of the three.

Yeah I'll take Malkin as well. As great as Jagr's 96 season was, I tend to give more credit when the player is the straw that stirs the drink. Even without Lemieux, I'm sure Jagr puts up some great numbers, but I don't think they'd be as impressive as what Malkin did with his supporting cast. Mackinnon was also phenomenal (arguably =/> 96 Jagr) but not quite as great as 2012 Malkin.

I feel Malkin was simply the best at his peak out of these players, similar to how Crosby was over Jagr even if Jagr had a slight edge in pure offensive talent. Wouldn’t fault anyone for taking Jagr though.
