Apparently Toronto wants 5th overall (CAR) something around their 24th overall pick + Roster player (Kessel?) for 5th overall and capdump(Semin?).
An astute move by Toronto, an incredibly stupid move by Carolina.
That would be a bit of a leap of faith on Carolinas part.
To me its a move a contender would make that fell short not a Hurricane team thats been at the bottom for the last couple seasons.
I'm asking for Rielly and Kessel in order to move 5th OA.
In other words, I would just hang up on Toronto.

If they pulled that deal off, Carolina fans should be very made
Carolina is a team that's just strange, on paper they look good... in real life, they're horrid.
I'd gladly take on Semin's contract + 5th overall for 15th + 2nd
Hopefully ownership is desperate.
Who would you guys pick at 5th OA? I was thinking Provorov.
I don't even think we have to add a 2nd, Semin's contract is that bad. I think 15th OA + Raymond is enough. I'd 50% Raymond and add our 3rd if we really had to sweeten to get the deal done. It's a much better proposal than Carolina getting Kessel.
Man, if we got 5th OA, I would be jumping for joy.

Anyone know if Kessel has a no trade clause? Can't picturing him waiving it for Carolina if so
According to the Fourth Period, Kessel has a NTC up to 8 teams he will accept a trade to.
In regards to the Flames trying to acquire 5th overall, how about:
G Cam Ward (6.3m) 1 year left
RW Alex Semin (7.0m) 3 years left
5th overall
G Jonas Hiller @ 50% (2.25m) 1 year left
LW Mason Raymond (3.15m) 2 years left
15th overall
Flames get the better pick, Carolina loses 7.9m in cap.
Carolina runs away with that. Change our 15th OA to 45th OA imo. Either that, or give up one of our 3rds for 35th OA.
Can't see Carolina actually giving up the 5th overall pick to dump salary.
