I don't get it at all. You likely aren't making the playoffs this year, and you just traded a second rounder that will end up in the 40-50th overall spot for a 33 year old dman who is on the downside and overpaid (even with the retention). If the blues were a contending team, I could see the trade I suppose, but makes zero sense for where they are.
Yeah i don't get it either. Unless they think they can Dante Fabbro him and swing him out at the deadline for a middle first but man thats not a very high percentage move...its unlikely thats why they did it.

Have other GMs been active in the trade market to find solutions to their roster issues, yes or no? Has Stan Bowman done the same, yes or no?

I've been extremely critical of Bowman/Jackson and still have my doubts about their capabilities, but the Oilers have found their game, there's no rush to make a move. Our defence is low-key good with Emberson coming into his own, Stecher playing decent minutes, Nurse playing like a stud, Kulak playing like a top-4. They've been one of the better teams in the the league last 2 weeks or so, there's no need to make a trade just for the sake of it.

I'll give the Blues an attaboy for trading for Fowler, cute of them to make a win-now trade when they're not even going to make the playoffs and would get smoked in the 1st round even if they made it.

The mains are hilarious. Blues fans stalking Oilers fans so every time we post something they’re right on it like fleas on a dog.

Never seen a fanbase so collectively angry at another team for no logical reason. We’re not rivals, not in the same division, don’t have playoff history together.
Mad at us for them taking our RFAs?

It’s probably that blues fan who came here saying Holloway and Broberg make them a 110 point team.

Fowler is a risky add for the Blues but it's a good risk.

This is a look at the kind of move we should be making. I'm not saying we should have got Fowler but I would have supported the decision, just like Fabbro

There are better slam dunk adds we can make for that #4 spot but those are not so likely. We lack the trade assets to compete for those, and we might want to keep futures to try to build up our prospect pool a bit.

I'm fine with holding back atm but the more that teams out there are making trades like these shows how there is no excuse to miss out. Our team is fine right now but we aren't winning the cup with a rotation in the #4 spot

I don’t really see how a non playoff team spending draft picks to add an old d-man is a good risk. He has a 4 team trade list clause, flipping him could be difficult.

The Oilers definitely have the assets to acquire a big name at the deadline. If they wanted to, they could build something around a 1st and Akey, who just made Team Canada. I bet they could beat the package they put together for Ekholm. Whether there is someone out there who may be available and worth that type of package is another question.

We're winning. Relax.
da fuq?

I am laughing at the people bleating on about management not getting *checks notes* Cam f'n Fowler. Every move that gets made people complain about the Oil not being in on it. I am laughing at the very typical whining about not getting, again, Cam Fowler.

It's a 32 team league, yet the same people whine every time a trade is made if it didn't involve Edmonton.

Cry more. The team is fine. Don't need to whine about EVERY move that every other team makes.

What was your previous name before being banned, btw?

Legitimately one of the funniest blunders in recent NHL memory. Kent Hughes basically squeezed two firsts out of that saga by taking Monahan as a cap dump, helping him regain form, then flipping him again at peak value.
And if Hughes had a brain he would have resigned him instead of constantly trying to stockpile picks.

I wonder if it's possible to snag Bowen Byram out of Buffalo with the trade rumours surrounding him. Very intriguing young player with tons of talent who dominated against us back in the 2022 playoffs. His defensive metrics have been pretty bad the past 2 years but he's still a productive 23 year old defenseman (hovers at around half a point per game, mostly at even strength) at a reasonable cap hit and put up solid defensive numbers in Colorado as recently as 2022, might be fixable with some Paul Coffey magic.

I would much rather get Mintyukov than Guhle.
I would love either. Unlikely they're available though given Anaheim and Montreal's current rebuild status.

How about this?

Beau Akey
2nd and 3rd

Kaden Guhle

Or we find a 3rd team involved. Somehow habs end up with fowler

Akey for Fowler with the ducks

To Montreal
Fowler
2nd, 3rd

To oilers
Kaiden Guhle

Ek Bouch
Nurse Guhle
Emberson kulak
Stetcher

Guhle played on the right side this season.
Guhle might be the most untouchable player on the Habs. There is zero chance they move him, given he's almost already a 1st pairing defenseman at 22 years old. He'll be one of the best defenders in the league in a few years.
