Trying picturing Gibson on the Oilers and Stuart on Anaheim.
This is what i mean, I would gaurntee Gibsons stats would drastically improve on edmonton and Skinners would fall even further. 🤷‍♂️

I mean awuoring Gibson and running Gibson Skinner 1A 1B might not be feasible but would be interesting to see who takes over as #1. My money be on Gibson

The Oilers got as far as they did with Skinner. I'd rather see an Ekholm-type addition. I wouldn't trust the Oilers to actually scout a goalie since they haven't done so since Roloson.

I mean this is it. Hard to win when you only score once or less. Certainly Bobrovsky played really well in game 1 but a true championship team finds a way.
So one of the best trades in Oiler history for one of the best d-men in the league?

At least your standards aren't super high.

Ya we'd all like that but if that's your bar then you'll shit on anyone they get.

Get a goalie. Skinner is playing awesome now. We know how he runs hot and cold and up and down (like a toilet seat). His shit play can cost this team a series in no time. I run him when he's hot and when he sucks (which he will in a long playoff run) I'd like them to be able to go to someone better than Picard.

Why are you pretending that the Ducks other goalies haven't been just fine for the past 5 years?

We can all see the stats.

Because they haven't been fine? When you've been stuck on a bad team like 6 years it takes a toll, lets see if Dostal still has the same numbers if the Ducks continue to suck for 6 more years. I doubt it.

This is obvious common sense to anyone, but some people are trying to twist themselves into a pretzel to deny it.

Riddle me this: How many Cups do Crosby and Malkin have without MAF and Murray? The answer is 0.

We may not be able to get that level of goaltending but we should at least try to get a tandem that is above average. This is obvious to most people except the geniuses in the Oilers front office.

Those of you still pushing for Gibson I wanna ask you guys. Have you guys watched a single Oilers vs Ducks game this half decade? I don't think there's any goalie in the league that's easier to score on than Gibson. I literally tune in when Gibson starts because it's time for our stars to pad their stats. The only time the Ducks have beaten us these past 3 years was a game that Dostal started lol.

So Gibson's particularly worse than other Ducks goalies because he's been there longer on a team with more familiarity? any other mental gymnastics I'm missing?

And yes, the other goalies have been fine. Except for Stolarz which was way better than fine

The fact that Dostal can play well behind that same trash fire, should really kill the Gibson idea once and for all. Add the contract even at 50% and it just wouldn't fit, let alone the fact that he sucks.

If the theory is 6 years of bad hockey has killed Gibson's ability/confidence, how many years of good hockey will it take to hopefully revive him. The risk makes no sense with this player.

Atleast a guy like Blackwood is trending up/even at the time of trade. Plus low cap hit and no term. You have good reasons to try that bet, Gibson, not so much.

It's one reason, but Skinner is a big reason too.

First time in the McDavid era we made the playoffs, you want to guess how many goals we scored in games 1/2/3 combined?

5.

You want to know what the series was after 3 games? 2-1 Edmonton. You want to know why? Because Talbot was outf***ingstanding. We won that series because of Cam Talbot.

Goaltending matters. A lot.
That’s one thing that bugs me about management during the Mcdavid era is that they never prioritized goaltending. Chia made a solid gamble with Talbot and a poor one with Koskinen. Holland thought it was the old days and you can just put in an average goalie like the Oilers were the second coming of the stacked, pre cap Red Wings teams then made a colossal fail with Campbell. I don’t know what Bowman’s plan is but he needs to find a 1a/b soon to go with Skinner or we don’t win a cup.

Weird, because Bobrovsky certainly looked vulnerable in games 4-6. Even the one goal he allowed in game 2 was hilariously bad. No goalie is invincible and every time I hear the "Goalie'd" excuse I roll my eyes.
We were goalied in game 1 but that’s really it. Bob saved something like 7 goals above expected that game. It was probably the best game the team played all playoffs and he shut the door.

My guy Johnny Kovacevic plays the top minutes on his team D tonight with NJDs protecting a narrow lead from the 13th minute of the third.
He goes 22.28 mins with 3 shots, 2 blocks, 2 hits.

The team (meaning management) is just stupid then.

Risking the McDavid era by spending less on goaltending than rebuilding teams do is a stupid strategy especially when Skinner has massive red flags in his game.

Now they want to pay out the ass for a "top four DEEEEE!!!!" when they mismanaged a cost controlled one in Broberg out of here like morons.
What move for a goalie would you make?

How would it be a guaruntee to be better than Skinner?

I don't think their are any clear cut upgrades available over Skinner. The logic I've seen most fans use is that Skinner is a tandem goalie. He needs someone who can challenge him and split time (like Fleury does in Minnesota).

Pickard is a fantastic backup. Teams with true starters would love him. Having said that, I don't see a situation where if Skinner falters that Pickard can take over the role. He can give Skinner a night off but he's not being used in relief the same way Vancouver utilized Silovs against us last year.
