We have the 2nd lowest goals against in the NHL since the 3rd game of the season (Cup hangover). That's with Emberson and Stetcher who people swore up and down would cause our D to collapse. Well it hasn't collapsed, from about game 3 of the season it's allowing the 2nd lowest GA/G I believe (2.4 GA/G).
I mean I'm not really sure it's a smart idea to spend huge on this.
Even a TJ Brodie (I know some people will flip their lid) would be fine, our D is Knob/Coffey's systems play it's not about individuals. He is a left shot D that plays the right side primarily.
In our system, a Brodie would probably look fine especially on the bottom pair.
I said the same. But my conclusion is different.
We defend well as a TEAM. Emberson and Stecher who would be viewed league wide as 3rd pair guys can play Top 4 in the Elite Knob system we have. It propped up a bad Ceci, and it’s propping up decent guys like Emberson/Stecher.
So why are we so worried about D and targeting a “safe, shutdown guy” when we know we can already defend well aaa TEAM.
What we need is IMPACT from the 2nd pair. Not just survival.
What we saw Bouch do to make impacts all playoffs long with Coffeys mentorship to win us games and put up generational numbers, we should want to replicate that on the 2nd pair.
A Skilled Right Handed Defenceman that can score goals and make plays. You put that on this team, we will be dominant.
