A quick reminder that after Dubnyk left Schwartz and the organization he finished 3rd for Vezina, 5th for Vezina and 4th for the frickin' Hart Trophy. Talbot meanwhile is pretty much tops in SPCT. Brossoit managed to become a career 0.917 backup in WPG.

Whether Schwartz is actively making our goalies worse, or is simply a poor judge of talent (and/or influence on the GM) is unknown, but his results have been pretty poor.
Schwartz never coached Dubnyk. Dubnyk was traded in Jan 2014, Schwartz was hired in Nov 2014,

Dubnyk was coached by Fredric Chabot, who was scapegoated(by fans and Mact) back then for similar reasons(the failure of the goaltenders). Amusing sidenote - once Dubnyk settled in Minny, he had the Wild hire Chabot so he could go back to working with him again.

So with rumblings the Isles are looking to sell, there's some interesting players there.

Brock Nelson is a player I've been a fan of for a while, has great size and can play in all situations, and is only $3M on the cap if you can convince the Isles to retain.

There's also Palmeri, Pageau(who's got 1 yr left) or Lee (who's got 1 year left at $7M)

I was looking at Skinner's GSAA/60 at 5 on 5 and was surprised to see Bobrovsky tied with him at -0.51 GSAA/60 and Linus Ulmark even worse at -0.64 just 2 seasons removed from winning the Vezina.

There are some very valued pickings (as you mention) off that carcass. If they are selling, they would be desirable.

The Isles have some good hard nosed players that can help teams.

Having Brock Nelson to be able to the wing or Center with his size and skill would dramatically improve the overall depth.

I find a way to get him at 50% on the cap, and flip J-Skins out East (like to Boston who are 2nd last in goals for in the entire league) would be a nice switch for this team, even if the price is high.

New GM, same BS- "wahhh it's too hard and expensive to make deals right now". Meanwhile Utah, SJ, Seattle, Washington and Pittsburgh have all made trades of varying complexity for roster players already and Columbus just stole a top four D on waivers. Bowman looks to be another Chiarelli/Holland who only got the job because of success years ago and has no interest in earning his paycheck. Demoralizing.
Always reactive, never proactive. This is the Oilers way. Oh to have even average management for a change instead of this Hockey Canada OBC nonsense.

I've been saying Pulock is the darkhorse for the Oilers. I could also see NYI moving Pelech, but there's not as much need for him given he's a LD.

That Islander team is a disaster. Cap locked, non-competitive, Patrick Roy as coach, nearly every player with a NTC, role players like Engvall signed until 2030, and NHL nomads like Duclair getting 4 year deals.

Lou should have retired years ago.
Does he still have that rule about no beards lol

Islands in the stream.
You were right about this signing.

Listened to Karius today. Spec says he is skating at home this trip and he isn't even going full bore yet

Ffs Jackson bungled most of this summer up hard

Are we acruing any cap space if guys are out longer than say ten days
Thanks. With this one it wasn't even a major stretch to say the player would have limited effectiveness and continue to struggle with health. That we paid 4M X2 for this gamble is ludicrous.

I'll disagree with getting Fabbro. I think we have our sites set on something bigger.

Getting Fabbro closes the door on that.
I don’t know if it closes the door necessarily. Could easilly go back on waivers and would get picked up. And the asset cost would have been minimal. Could have given him a test run until the TDL to see if he’s a fit and cut him loose if he wasn’t.

I don't know that he will. He's literally playing 20+ minutes a night in CLB, he has 2 g and 4 pts in 7 games.

I don't know they keep him forever, but they'll trade him for something, unlike Nashville apparently lol.

Edit: He's also +7 in that time.

Oh they’ll keep him. I’m just saying if we traded for him and he didn’t work out here, we could have reverse course and still traded for someone else at the TDL.

My guess is they either sign him in the next month or 2, or deal him at the deadline. Still be determined, but man he couldn't have been expensive to acquire, and clear could play 2RD.

Has to be Trotz incompetence to not shop him around. Egregious mismanagement. I’d be pissed if I was a Preds fan. Not to mention his off-season of bringing expensive aging shooters and not giving them a playmaker.

I mean I don't mind the being aggressive by the Preds, but they aren't good enough down the middle to go with that many wingers, and, as you said, the asset management has been poor.

I'd rather go for Pulock

So many failed attempts to get a 1C over there over the years. With Duchene and Johansen. They never really did fill that hole or fix that problem, an aging ROR ain’t it. So Trotz was just like f*** it and double downed on Wingers. It’s really bad management and scouting. Like did they not see Kucherov carrying Stamkos ass all these years? Or even Eichel with Marchessault to some degree?

I agree with this. Damn near as bad as bone head wanting to get a declining Taylor back here.
