Analytics still don't always tell the whole tale though. In fact the analytics paint last game against the Rangers as close even though anyone watching would know it wasn't.

I've said that analytics have their place but using them as some sort of bible is a mistake. It's important to use both the eye test and the analytics to determine what's what.

Hockey more than any other sport has so, so many variables at a single given moment: Broken equipment, ice conditions, officiating, crazy bounces, etc etc etc.
Thank you for your respectful reply (folks seem so angry these days). The underlying metrics show the game wasnt close.

I keep hearing hockey has so many variables- and yet- the same players are consistently good and the bad players are consistently bad.

Could also be that players personal judgement of the situation. I’d be interested to compare the exact ups and downs between Broberg and Jiricek versus others in that same situation. Maybe these players are just handling it different but the basis of what’s going on is very similar.
I included maturity in my post but maybe personal judgement is different. Ultimately Broberg took his situation and accepted the demotion to work on his game. Killed it in the A and team trusted him in Final 4 playoff competition. Then the off-season presented the opportunity. I don't want to go down the Broberg rabbit hole on this - there's a dedicated thread on it.

Jiricek looks on his way to a new opportunity situation. We'll have to see what, if anything, he does with it.

That's true, if we aren't hoping to have him ready for next season. It's never too early though, as long as they don't expect him to be exposed.
A game or 2 in the NHL this season isnt likley going to have much of an impact for next season.
I think they should let him maximize his TOI in Bakersfield and then give him an opportunity to impress next season.
A good guide for a 20 year old in the AHL (to be an impact top 6 player in the NHL) is being at or near 1.0 ppg.
Savoie is at 0.6 ppg in the AHL and he is on the cusp of his 21st b-day...thats not exactly lights out.

Yeh Broberg sucked it up. Did what the team asked of him and it was the best thing that could have happened for him and the team. All that could have happened without any of the bellyaching no? Same thing with Pool, acted as if the Oilers were holding him back from PP opportunity, and now he's on team 3 still without that PP opportunity. I agree that today's young players don't fall in line like they used to... but at the end of the day it only makes sense that the organization wants what's best for themselves which is the best possible development for their prospects. It could go either way though, but like in the Holland regime there was prospects that developed and did so without complaints like Holloway, Mcleod, etc. And then there were those that complained about pretty much the same path.

The analytics actually show the game wasn’t close until the oilers got a huge lead and stopped pushing

This isn't video game hockey. Donny Wad is a deeply experienced GM and not going to give away a top six pedigree age 20 unicorn player type who's caught in the vortex of a badly managed organization. Reduce your intake of garbage trade speculation hot takes.
Excuse me? What garbage trade speculation hot take was this? I'm posting stuff on here to help other HFOil friends know about trade speculation. If I make a small comment like that, how is it garbage?

What I find more garbage is what you said. If you don't like what I say, put me on your ignore list. I thought I usually get immature on here but clearly not.

At some point his next contract is going to matter to him more than making the playoffs.

~10 goals here while toiling between the bottom 6 and probably eventually the press box means he's signing for $1x1 somewhere next year. If he goes somewhere else, even if it's a shitty team and scores at a 20+ goal pace with Top6 and PP time he'll be able to still get a real contract.

He wants the playoffs..That is what he wants

You often post rumour junk and spend time for apologizing for it. Often the improbable rumour is deleted from an unreliable social media feed. Perpetuating misinformation.

The source you posted is actually a credible one and citing a legitimate insider. Your comment about Waddell is strange. I often appreciate your posts when you take time to post qualified, reasonable sourced rumours. But not posting impulsive spam stuff.

Thus the inclusion of Emberson.
Chicago has a pretty good quality RD. Vancouver and Nashville especially looking for that position. 3 assets is what they will want.
So if Davidson countered 2nd, Emberson, Philp would you do this? Probably for 2 to three years of Murphy at his peak?

Emberson is still trying to prove he is an nhl and the prospect we are trying to sell them is a fringe prospect

Oilers said they are going to let prospects overripe. I doubt they call Savoie up at all this season.
I hate that term. It makes no sense whatsoever, especially in a cap world

I saw something that the Oilers could improve their cap space at TDL by a significant amount if they waived another player during this break. Dermott would be an easy clear. Seems like a waste, who is our capologist now?

I thought they should have waived Dermott too. Our cap specialist now is one of the guys who used to work for cap friendly…so a legit guy cap guy

The Guy has 10 points in 17 games at 20. His first "official" pro season, and your still going to call him out. cmon man. When Savoie is sitting at nearly PPG at the 40 game mark, what's going to be your call out then ? He is going to be good. Put money on it.

I like how they're framing "This year, he’d been scratched in favor of 37-year-old Jack Johnson, Jake Christiansen and waiver claim Dante Fabbro, and the Blue Jackets assigned Jiricek to the AHL last week." as him being mishandled.

Two guys playing the left side and a rightie that has vastly outplayed him.

Sports "journalism".
