I've already beaten this horse for a few pages yesterday, but I'll just say he gave up his routine muffin goal in the most important game possible and that was the differen e, after his horrific performance in the first 3 games of the series that put the Oilers in a virtually insurmountable hole.

I just can't believe there are still people who think this is the guy. Maybe they think this Oiler team could be the 2022 Avalanche. And it's unfortunate for the fans and players that the galaxy brain organization probably thinks the same.
It is actually frightening. To me, you have no care if they never win a cup if you think Stuart Skinner should stay here long term. You have to either be a casual fan and not too emotionally attached to the team or his relative/friend. I hope to god our management doesn't think this way.

You might as well just ship #97 off and re-tool.

I’m not sure any contending team is grabbing Gibson at his full cap hit. If we can get him at around 4 and send out skinner it’s only an increase of 1.4 mill. I think we all have goalie ptsd from Campbell. Gibson was always solid behind a decent team and doesn’t come with the mental baggage.
Parity is huge though. There are top contenders who can't make this deal but Gibson would likely waive to go to a middling team. I'd say we are one of the more obvious teams to do a goalie upgrade though.

We almost lost to the Canucks last year in a series that shouldn't have been close because of Skinner. I don't think we can take that chance again. Goaltending needs to be the #1 priority
Skinner had get bailed out by Pickard against the Canucks this year, bailed out by Campbell against LA the year before. I think our luck with that will end and goaltending will be the cause of an early exit.

It’s Oilers management. We are so used to abysmal management that we have no idea what even passable management looks like. Of course there’s some here that are okay with shit tier management and will shoot down any noise that their nepotistic asses aren’t doing a good job.

Yup, and Skinner is not the only problem folks

I think everybody knows this.

If our offense was playing properly, we would have more wins, but I have zero trust in Skinner. Cup game winning goal was absolute trash. Vancouver series was almost lost. We can't take another gamble with this guy

We held VAN to nothing in game 7 until dumbass McCLoed had that giveaway. Then Hronek point shot. You want your goalie to even fluke and save one of those.

He cannot be trusted. He will let in garbage goals more than most.

Also, we aren't blind. The idiots upfront have to go to the tougher areas as well to score. I fully realize a good goalie could come here and not win much more if the boys upfront play fairy perimeter hockey...BUT, at least that goaltending position could be improved regardless.

Our pro scouting has been nothing short of pathetic.
There has been so much variation in Gibson's game: do you (should our GM) trust what they see and are able to interpret?
I don’t know what to tell you. I just wanted to know if there were any scouts at the Ducks/Sabres game-lol.

In reality, the better questions are a) what teams are trading a goalie 20 games into a new season, unless there’s been a trade request and b) is that goalie an upgrade on Skinner (plus cap implications)?

The goaltending sucks and needs to be fixed, but Bowman’s options are pretty limited right now I’m guessing. Either way, I don’t see it being addressed based upon a lot of factors until the new year. In the end, Gibson may be the only viable option. The 25 UFA free agent market is awful for goalies to boot so

That they went into the year with the exact same tandem indicates that they took some input from him.
I agree, he must have some input. But what's sort of shocking is that, there is a universe where this goaltending tandem might work if the Oilers added significant defensive pieces from last year. I think everyone can see that as a possibility.

But management friggen downgraded the defense, with some promise of "keeping the powder dry" a la Chiarelli the year the Oilers were out of the playoffs by the deadline (truly one of the more delusional moments in this team's modern history).

They need to get significantly better on D. That's why names that are floating out there like Ristolainen or Peterson make me cringe. That caliber of defenseman isn't going to cut it.

But they've now put themselves in a spot where they might have to settle for a guy like Ristolainen or Peterson because they can't wait till the deadline to accrue the needed cap for a guy like Pulock or Parayko, a real Ekholm level player that they need given the rest of the makeup of the team.

I give Svilos or whatever their goalie’s name is the most credit for making it a 7 game series. Flip goalies and that’s a 4 game sweep for the Oilers. Yes he’s crashed back to earth this season so far but he was dynamite for Vancouver. Both goalies were the reason it went 7 games at both ends of the spectrum . Rarely do you see a series go 7 games because one goalie stood on his head and the other was Stuart Skinner.

Well they are a rebuilding team who have appeared to find a cheaper, young goalie for the future. Gibson has a M-NTC and if he’s willing to waive for the Oilers I can see the appeal for the ducks to move him now.

Maybe they’ll take both Skinners. Win-win. Stuart can suck into mediocrity with Anaheim, Jeff keeps his no-playoffs streak alive, the Oilers hopefully improve between the pipes.

I would advocate for not spending a ton of the D. Knoblaugh/Coffey's defensive system works, and it will work when you don't have freaking sieve in net. Even Nurse is having a good season when playing with Kulak.

Calvin Pickard's GAA is 2.44 GA ... that says it all right there, when he is in net, the Oilers GA drops to top 10 in the league, which means the D is doing alright when they get some saves. And Pickard isn't even that good.

I would go after Jusso Valimaki, a bit younger guy who's only $2 mill cap hit and is cost controlled for the next two seasons, which will help us a lot. He has room to grow in his game too.

Ekholm Bouchard
Nurse Kulak
Valimaki Emberson

Get A Goalie
Pickard or Skinner back up

I think would be the more adequate goal.

Perhaps we replace both our goalies. 1 now ....with Ville Husso on the comeback trail Alex Lyon should be available. Behind a solid defense he could post a steady .910. He will never be a world beater but he is steady.
Later say within a month of the deadline dan Vladar will likely become available as Calgary will be desperate for extra draft capital to trade into the top 4 of the draft--Montreal will have the pick they need and it will be available for huge price. Vladar might be a bit better than Lyon but is again a 1b tyoe guy. The devil (actually i like him) Craig conroy will likely retain. Further Dustin Wolf will be a star soon and Devin Cooley is finally showing his promise in the A.

These are not ideal goalies, neither will be mistaken for Hellybuck, and having them here would be predicated on having a very good defensive defenseman RH and a decent 2 way guy to foil Nurse and pushing Emberson into a 7.

Further we should fix our AHL goalies. Nashville has two of them on the cusp of playing in the show. Lets get one.
Further we should trade something to Columbus for Matt Olivier and Sergei Ivanov.

We have the assets and futures to trade for this. None of the above is real expensive. The two way guy just needs to be solid--not a guy with a real heavy or accurate shot (leave that to Nurse) just a guy to pick up for Nurse defensively an be able to skate and pass.

However you need to realize that these changes would lead us back to a more defensive modified 1-3-1. We would be much harder to play against. Maybe thats not the style of game either Jackson or Bowman want.

An all around decent approach imo. I really like the idea of acquiring Olivier. That would be a solid addition.

LOL JFresh. That guy doesn't know shit
yeah, only stats. What a dumb way to evaluate a goalie. Much prefer your "well he's linked to the Oilers and/or available so that means we should get him" approach.

Worse then what we have? We have the fking worst goalie statistical in the league right now and probably the last 2 seasons

Really? You're re-entering the conversation after ghosting me like 3 times earlier this season when I asked you to provide any evidence at all that Gibson is better than Skinner and you couldn't?

Welcome back

Gibson has to be 50% retained for it to be plausible, but this is still favorable for the Ducks, paying 3.2m is better than paying 6.4m especially for a team not seeing playoff revenue.

And there is your 2nd pair RH. Wow if we could get him. Probably not play this year but this kid has vision in spades. He has most of the basics in the D zone just needs to be quicker on his gaps and his reads. Both very teachable to a guy with his brain.
Kinda wish we would stop getting news about this as I get sort of emotional about it and I have no one to confirm if even the rumor is true.

Akey and a second?

Jiricek would be huge for us. I wonder if we could see something bigger like Jiricek + Merzlikins for Skinner + 1st + ?
