I don't even care enough to worry Bouchard is not on the ice. Just go lose today and regroup. Don't they have a bunch of days off?

Hope they play Pickard. Still losing though most likely

Skinner is starting and I get the group hate of Bouchard, but this team's defense without him and Nurse (if Nurse isn't back) will be horrendous.

It's Kulak and Ekholm playing 27-30 mins, most of it together.

People keep assuming this. What if he just sucks cause he sucks. Dostal doesn’t suck in front of that Anaheim club.
The simple fact is, 99% of the posters here have probably not watched 1-2 full game of his outside of ANA-EDM games in the past 5 years. THey just go to hockeydb (on most players)

Because it’s pretty safe to assume the team being terrible effects the goaltending?

Dostal hasn’t been great there either or does 14 games convince you? Gibson also usually starts the season off really strong.

Sure. But also him being terrible affects goaltending.

It could be both.

Dostal is rocking a .924 in front of the Ducks. Something Gibson hasn’t been able to do in 7 years.

Like I just said Gibson usually starts the season really strong as well. It’s ridiculous that you are saying that after 14 games. You think that sv% holds up over a full season being the starter on a really bad hockey team? I flat out guarantee it won’t be close to that by the end of the season.

So Gibsons numbers are a mirage right now? Doesn’t that mean he sucks?

Maybe. Dostal from what I’m reading and what I remember from us playing him could also be legit good. Seems Ducks management thinks so enough to finally release Gibson from purgatory. Isn’t that the source of the rumor, Ducks are willing now that they have an upgrade ready to go?

My point is by the end of the season even good goalies won’t have very good stats behind a 27-50 club. I’m not saying Dostal isn’t a good goalie I’m saying his stats are good now but that won’t last an 82 game season behind a terrible team.

Man, Gibsons #'s are like Patrick Roy compared to the guy we have in net lol

And I’m saying Gibson could be complete shit like the stats indicate. Let’s not treat him like some goalie god, when no one would give anyone else that benefit of doubt because of the team he plays for. We gave Dubnyk away for free, no one paid us cause he played behind one of the worst defences in the NHL during the decade of darkness.

All I’m saying is Gibson better come cheap. He doesn’t deserve a huge haul for how he’s PLAYED. f*** the reputation, in the world of voodoo goaltending it’s what have you done for me lately.

Even at 50%, Gibson would be tough to fit in. If we're looking for double retention, we better be sure he's the solution for the assets it would take to get him. Personally, he wouldn't be my first choice for that reason alone.

I’m fine with looking for a goalie alternative. Stu has forced our hand with his play this year. But let’s no Jack Campbell ourselves again with high cap hit for still shitty goaltending.

There were a boatload of cheap potentials last year, that have mostly all shit the bed, except for Blackwood. If we can get Blackwood cheap in terms of his cap hit and acquisition cost, I’d be down.

I mean you kind of prove my point. Look how good dubnyk looked when he was finally not playing in front of a tire fire.

I agree though he should be cheap.

I'd love to try Gibson but it's just bad management to gamble on someone with so many red flags. But imo, getting to play on a good team would reinvigorate him. But, I could be wrong

There's also the deal breaker that his last year overlaps with the first year of McDavid's new contract. It's just not happening unless there is double retention so his cap hit is 1.6 aav

Worse then what we have? We have the fking worst goalie statistical in the league right now and probably the last 2 seasons
John Gibson last 3 seasons:

21-22: .904%/3.19GAA/-14.3GSAe
22-23: .899%/3.99GAA/-11.5GSAe
23-24: .888%/3.54GAA/ -9.6GSAe

Total: .898%/3.57GAA/-35.4GSAe

Skinner last 3 seasons:

21-22: .913%/2.62GAA/+.9GSAe
22-23: .914%/2.73GAA/+6.8GSAe
23-24: .905%/2.62GAA/ +2.0GSAe

Total: .910%/2.67GAA/+9.7GSAe

Anyone sitting here shitting on Skinner and arguing to go out and SPEND assets to get John Gibson and his 6.4M contract for another 3 years is either trolling or operating on half a brain.

Absolutely acknowledge Stu has been bad so far this year. But John f***in Gibson ain't it.

It's a bigger gamble betting on Skinner
