Just piggy backing off a speculation thread on mains. If Isles continue to flounder, could see them selling off and retooling. It is probably pretty rare, but fingers crossed that Bowman would at least take a shot at it.
We just don't have the assets. Can't see it happening though it would be amazing.

I watched Parayko at 4 Nations and want no part of him. He kills plays by carrying the puck up himself, leaving the forwards stuck at the blue line waiting for him to get there. He's a bigger Nurse in that regard. We can do better.
What? Nurse and Parayko together would be so good. Nurse has the speed and rush game. Parayko has the size, stick work and defensive play. That pairing would be better than what we have right now

Can someone explain how the Oilers went from potentially having $8 - $9 million in cap space at the deadline to now being a dollar-in-dollar-out team? What the f happened?
Where are getting the 8 or 9 mill from? It was always 5ish mil.

People here keep saying McDavid is hurt, why doesn't he go on LTIR? Tkachuk is already out of the season and Florida is going to abuse his cap and so is Vegas with Theodore.
Because McDavid is a stubborn bastard and won’t sit if he can still play. Even at 10%. He’s still above a ppg playing the worst he’s ever played in the nhl.

He's too competitive. It’s a strength and a weakness.

Even with this lead, I doubt a mcdavidless oilers makes the playoffs 😅 i mean we're playing this bad with him, I'd hate to see without

He's by far the highest risk of any of the candidates available. No track record of success, late bloomer, pending UFA, playing in a low pressure environment on that a team that's just happy to be playing meaningful games on the back half of the schedule, even the career best season he is having isn't all that impressive.

These types of guys pop up every few years and get a few teams interested(Husso and Korpisalo, even Campbell kind of qualifies as some recent examples), they rarely pan out and usually fall back to irrelevancy by the next season after someone bets on them.

Sure, but I'm not signing him to a 5 year extension.

I'm adding him for a playoff run.

The 9 mill from accrual+LTIR from Kane. It was a thing until we called guys up and picked up Klingberg.

I don't understand the math here. The Oilers are currently over the cap and $47k into Kanes LTIR. How does changing Klingberg (1.75) to Holloway (2.3) get us under the cap with room to spare?

Unfortunately, matching Holloway would have put us further into LTIR.

I mean the argument isn't that we shouldn't upgrade on the goaltending. The argument is that we don't have the cap space or assets to make it happen. Adding a 6M goalie in Binnington or Gibson will be almost impossible in a dollar in, dollar out scenario.
See ya later Corey Perry, We don't sign Kapanen. It wasn't that hard

They could have matched on Holloway but Kapanen had nothing to do with that decision. They picked him up on waivers on November 19th. The easiest way to handle the match would have been to waive Ryan. They would have been in LTIR but not by much.

This won't happen, but would anyone here trade Bouchard for McCann (or similar offensive player)

Use TDL to somewhat replace Bouchard? Klingberg could run the PP

God no. We went years needing a Bouchard, and after seeing how well he performs in the playoffs, no way I trade him. This sometimes happens to players, grip the stick a little too tight in a contract year. Use it to bring his caphit down and be happy you have a top pairing RD locked up to a good number. I'd bet this season will be his worst over the next 10 years.

Clearly management sent a message saying if you sign an offer sheet you are goners. What a fail losing Holloway was......

Got a few reasons here.

One. Imagine explaining to the NHL, after watching the 4 Nations tournament, that McDavid isn't healthy enough to llay for the next 2 months.

Two. We're a wildcard team at best if he doesn't play the rest of the season.

Would have thought these points would go without saying

You probably aren't wrong, but I bet last year will be his best. Depending how much money he wants it may not be a bad idea to move him.

His "Lows" are clearly pretty freaking low and we don't need another "Nurse contract situation" on our hands.

Obviously in reality Bouchard is not getting traded, it's just a discussion.

Or maybe he's not hurt? He's had some great bursts of speed lately. He was also playing like this before the 4 nations...

TBH if he's not with Drai he has been a pile of hot garbage all year. Is it Mcdavid regressing? League having tape on Hyman causing problems? Or is it simply the fact he has NOBODY to play with.

I really don't think he is injured because when he is on the ice with Drai he looks good.

The asking price for Boeser at 50 percent is a 1st and a good prospect (Sam O Reilly)

His cap hit would be 3.3.

Doubt Vancouver would trade with us, but this should put the price of other top 6 players into perspective. Maybe we can make a similar move, while Keeping Savoie.
