Rumor: R&P Thread | Oilers Sign G Samuel Jonsson (3-Years ELC), RW Quinn Hutson (2-Years, $875k AAV), LD Atro Leppanen (1-Year, $975k)

A couple realistic names heading into free agency that I'd love on the team. Will require moving out some contracts.

Bennett (probably can't afford him)
Boeser
Reilly Smith
Dvorak
DeAngelo

But we've seen plenty of NHL players follow the same path as Savoie. I'm just asking people to pump the brakes on getting too invested in the guy until he's better tested. That said...

If you're good enough to potentially play in the NHL one day, then wouldn't you attract more opportunities in a weaker minor league like the SHL, especially when every Swedish goalie currently in the NHL received better opportunities at his age (or went to North America instead)?
Why are you telling people to feel how you think they should feel on a subject.

This reminds me of Savoie getting dumped on for not being in the AHL. You can only do your best with the opportunity provided.
I think that’s a little different. Savoie had a rougher start but got used to it and excelled. The big thing for him was getting used to the pro size and speed because he is a small player.

Clearly way too good for? He had the best stats in his league but wasn’t even played the most on his team.

Is it that rare?
12 Swedish goalies in the NHL this year.
Every single one has played 20+ SHL games at the same age/stage of development as Jonsson. If Jonsson just finished his 19 year old season sure, but it was his 21 year old season, not a teen anymore.
I don't know what to tell you. Wallstedt was his SEL's team lead goalie in games played in draft eligible season and post draft year 1. That's excessively rare territory.

Jonsson's a mid draft prospect on a top second division pro team which might bump up to SEL. Add his size and athleticism, he has very good raw ability that is worth the Oilers signing to a three year entry contract. Can he deliver on his raw attributes? Remains to be seen. It's a qualified bet imo.

Avs are sitting basically every key player in their game today against LA. We should be doing the same, we aren't catching LA.
And what do we do if Avs win in regulation? Not that it matters but round 1 ain't going 7 games so home ice IMO won't come into play anyways

Why are you telling people to feel how you think they should feel on a subject.

Why do you insist on stifling rational discussions? You did this with Drivesaitl too.

Filip Gustavsson was playing Hockey Allsvenskan at a similar age and had weaker numbers than Jonsson.

He was a fully established SHL backup by 18 and was playing SHL games at 16/17.

Literally won goalie of the year.

Weren’t you calling it the summer of Jackson after free agency day?

Most of us were. Forgive him for being optimistic at the time, especially when there was a valid reason to expect better performances out of the players we signed in the offseason (unlike with the Klingberg signing).

I don’t recall using those words and don’t post a lot in summer so who knows. But I admit while it looked good on paper and was as happy as everyone else I was also assuming they had a plan to sign Broberg and Holloway - when they got offer sheeted I assumed they’d LTIR Kane.

Either way I’m merely a fan. I don’t get paid millions of dollars per year to f*** up a hockey team.

What looked good then has blown up in their face and I’m just sick and tired of the incompetence Oilers management has shown in the Decade of McDavid.

So much hindsight in this thread. If Edmonton had league average goaltending and even half the injuries missed we probably win the division and come 2nd/3rd in a pretty loaded West.

With all due respect saying “if this or if that” makes no sense. “If we didn’t have McDavid…” is what we’re constantly told but it’s a useless argument.

Facts are this; we don’t have league average goaltending from our starter and management did f*** all about it, citing time and again goaltending wasn’t a problem and finding goalies is hard / all while 10 other teams addressed their starting goaltending.

Injuries are not managements fault but not using their cap space, is. Prolonging player injuries by rushing them back, is. Loading up on older more fragile players, is. And trading / signing injured players expecting miracle cures, is.

It’s not hindsight to state facts and draw conclusions from them. Nor is it being negative or pessimistic. It’s just being realistic.

No to all of those.

Bennett is gonna be extremely overpaid, same with Boeser.

The rest are the definition of 3-4M mid players that don’t move the needle.

Smith and Dvorak wouldn’t break 30 points on this team with the way offense is distributed and DeAngelo would simply get the Jeff Skinner treatment from Knob, except on D.
