Agree with everything until the last sentence. I don’t think there’s any chance they move on from varly this year
NTC and LL propensity to have security in net certainly make a move less likely, but Colorado and Washington are familiar cities for Varly and give him a potential to win... maybe he forgoes the NTC this season to chase a cup at 36.

Moving him at the TDL could net a good return.

would be shocked if Lou didn't put in a claim tbh. he's league min, you let George go play 25 mins a night in Bridgeport
Yeah hoping George has a rebound for confidence in these Chicago games. But I do hope once Pelech is back he gets down and plays big minutes in Bridge.

Next year with the big club full time

Watching Roy. He seems to be suppressing or stifling emotions. Did he “mature”, become more reserved, or did Lou tell him, as a condition of employment to dial it down?
Cause I much rather see Colorado Roy at some point, explode, let these guys know how they’re playing is not acceptable.

He let it loose tonight on the bench. I want Roy to have full control and I hope that is the plan.

He had been working with younger players for awhile and probably had to dial it down a lot. He's also gotten older. Probably realized that yelling at people all the time is ineffective and works better if you choose your moments better.

Hence... last night.

Mike Rupp nails it. 18:45 to 23:00. Perfectly sums up exactly who and what the Islanders are and have been.

It isn't working. Lou's been trying to win the 2021 Stanley Cup for the last 4 seasons and it's still not working. We're missing key regulars and when they come back this is still a low scoring team that has bottom 10 special teams. Not a threat. And the worst part is what Rupp said, Lou won't give up on them. He's been too loyal to players who don't get results together as a team.

I’m not a lover of Rupp - he’s a bit too corporate and watches his words. He seems to talking a bit more freehand these days, which is refreshing.

Best part is Rupp says Barzal/Duke are not needle movers when they come back.

This hang on until these clowns come back and they’ll save the day theory is absurd.

Engvall and Wally waived. Maclean and Martin survive
Two AHL guys going to the place they belong. Much ado about nothing.

Hopefully someone claims Wally so the Isles can just move on on any belief he is a NhLer.

Adios Wally

The end of an error
In retrospect, 2018 was not a great draft. At least Wally was better than Kravtsov.

Funny: after Bouchard was taken at #10, based on their play in the NHL since, the next 2 picks should have been Dobson and Romanov.

They're definitely gonna end up buying out Engvall this summer
Unless they think there might be a "get out of jail free" buyout clause in the next CBA.

To put it more succinctly, Engvall can’t play for a winning team.

Can't seem to play for a losing team either!

Unless they think there might be a "get out of jail free" buyout clause in the next CBA.

Engvall's contract might be a good candidate for termination. Isles clearly don't want him and he might not want to play for Roy or play in Bridgeport.

Unlikely, but how Lou Islanders would that be? Engvall gets relegated to Bport while the man who signed him sits comfortably in the GMs office looking for the next marginal player to acquire and overpay for 7 years.

The isles are not going to change until several of the ongoing core are traded. Upgrading the fringe players isn’t enough bc that core still plays the same way.

All isles fans talk about is the mud on the shoe over and over. Isles need to change shoes.

Nelson is a nice loyal player, but he’s also kinda weak defensively. He is part of the problem too. The same weak spots of the players perish and they can’t be masked with 8 minute a night players.

The time to sunset Lou is now. 2nd half of season coming, he goes out with the team on the cusp of the season wild card. He doesnt make a dumb move in extending Nelson/Palms no matter where the Isles are in the playoff race.

Not in love with Roy as GM, but it could be an acceptable transition to Ledecky (fanboy)/Malkin (money man) to have a prominent name running the show. Also, Roy has intimate knowledge and no loyalty to this bunch of players.
