I know they have another year of Allen, but I'm surprised they make that move vs picking up Raanta on waivers.

I'm sure they'll pursue a Markstrom or Saros type in the offseason still. Just seems like a weird move in the meantime, especially with a guy like Raanta for free.

I believe the problem they've had is Daws was the only guy they were willing to play, they ran him into the ground a bit, and he suffered for it. So, Allen does make some sense from that perspective. But now they have a lot of decisions coming in the future with Schmid, Daws, Vanecek, Allen and likely interest in one of the big goalies that could shake loose in the summer.

Yeah I'm really confused as to what they're thinking here. Raanta is basically Glass Joe and he'd still make more sense than trading an asset for Allen since Allen has another year on his deal.

I could see a KK for Schmaltz deal with equalizer. Schmaltz's real dollars will be in the 8s for his last 2 years.

Maybe get Vallimaki while we are at it. We have Coghlan and Smith to give up.

Possibly. But given our lack of an AHL team, they may just hold tight to all the NHL level depth they can.
