The more I think about, the more I feel that this team needs a 4th line center that you can throw out there in the last minute of a game protecting a lead. That would spell minutes for Mika, and make the team deeper.
really crossing my fingers that Barron can be that guy. I read he is known for his defensive abilities with Cornell so...

Theodore is a significantly better defensive player than DeAngelo, locked into an outstanding contract ($5.2MM AAV for 5 more years after this one), and an excellent offensive player in his own right. And oh by the way, he's 6'2", 195 lbs.

By no means should the team be trading DeAngelo "just to trade him", but a deal centered around a guy like Theodore is precisely the sort of thing I mean when I mention "rationalizing assets" in regards to the team's roster construction, and specifically the glut on RD.

Also, he spells "Shea" correctly. :)

what, is he going to spell it Skjei Theodore?

The Coronavirus attendance ban is going to tank the cap and force management to buyout Staal to save $2.13M on the cap. Easier to do than buying out Henrik to save $3M.

lol, teams with little operating income will make even less. This ought to go well. Hank and Staal owed a fortune and not retiring.

I wouldn't have a problem giving him 4 years if the money makes sense.

Hes a good player.

@Blue Blooded has mentioned Nemeth a couple times. Think he could be a great compliment to an ADA type. He’ll probably be cheaper than Edmundson, too.
With our LD prospect pipeline 4 years makes no sense at all, esp with the expansion draft (unless we're happy they take him I guess).

The beauty with Nemeth is that he is signed for one more year at $3M and Detroit (fans at least) are happy to let him go for a ~3rd. He is a perfect stopgap while our prospects mature.

agreed

i advocated for edmundson a few threads ago but after some research he really isnt that good and im not interested in giving a defenseman who will not be in our top 4 that kind of term. trade a 3rd for nemeth and be done with it

See, that you can talk me into. Pair Theodore up with Trouba and there's your top pairing. Then comes Fox and Lindgren. Werenksi...Theodore.....those are names that I would view as fitting a return profile for DeAngelo; one that does not push back competing and has merit for the way the team is to be built long term.

Yeah, competing sooner is nearly meaningless to me. Whatever gets the better long term team is my aim.... obviously within reason.

If the Rangers sign a veteran LD to a reasonable contract, that could also help them fulfill the expansion draft requirement. I don’t know what the market will look like for Scandella or Dillion but they and Edmonton are all possibilities.

Dillon would be a good add, IMO. Tough guy to play against in front the net, takes the body, stands up for his teammates, makes guys pay for coming into the slot. This team is missing some snarl on the back end & Dillon has a ton of that. He doesn't compile many points, but actually moves the puck pretty well out of his own end.

To the same extent everyone underrated the virus up until now at least, I am sure everyone underrate the speed of the recovery.

The expert talk about seeing either a V or U ‘dent’ in the curve. Steep decline and steep recovery.

So I doubt they let it effect the cap if (when??) the season is cancelled.

Edmundson would be a great guy to have as a bottom pair LHD.

The problem is he is likely going to get the money and term worthy of a top 4 guy. They don't need an all star at that position, I'd settle for league average-ish which honestly can be found in the bargain bin if you look hard enough.
The only times I’ve noticed him is when he takes a dumb penalty or gets beat. I’m no scout but he appears to be a poor man’s Marc Staal. Which i don’t think we’re looking for. Just my two cents anyhow.

I’d give up a lot to get Heiskenen out of Dallas . I know it’s not happening but he really looked mature beyond his years and stood out for Dallas the other day .
