The more I have thought about who to protect, the more I believe Rangers could go 4+4. Kreider, Zibanejad, Panarin and Chytil for forwards. If a very good LD is available, you dont stay away because you want to protect 3 of Strome, Buch, Gauthier, Lemeuix, Howden etc. You will only loose one of them if they are all unprotected.

Very poor asset management unless you're talking about some unrealistic deal where you're getting a 1LD for pennies on the dollar. Buch has too much value to be left unprotected, and you'd want to lose Strome who has been playing at a 70 point clip along with Panarin whose putting up a career year?

With Panarin and Zibanajad. We haven't had those type players on the pp in years either. It's always amusing to me that everyone ties Stromes point totals to Panarin but dont do the same with Tony. This is his best year by a landslide. I like him but I dont 7 mill like him, Fox in his first season is what 10 points behind and playing on pp2. Our offense has been dynamic, everyone has had a big year, it's no coincidence that it happened when Panarin arrived. If the deal is not super long and cap friendly I'd love to have him but if it's in the 7 range we can add to a position of need and use Fox on the top pp,and I feel we are better for it as long as the trade gets us a top 6 forward or a top pair left dman
Panarin also had his best year by a landslide.

Have to disagree with you. You do not put the season on hold because you can loose ONE player at the expansion draft. Of course the player you acquire must be more important than than the one you lose.

First of all, I am not one of the people that points to Panarin as the sole reason for Strome's points. I actually detest that argument.

Second of all, somehow history does not differentiate that Paul Coffey played on a power play with Gretzky, Messier & Kurri on it. Somehow his points all went to the Hall of Fame with him.

Third of all, what top PP can you point to that does not have excellent forward and is solely a great power play because of the QB point man?

Fourth of all, I never said $7m.

Lastly, the PP looked not nearly as good in the games where Fox ran it when DeAngelo was hurt

I think it's also important to note, that Panarin wasn't putting up that many pp points. His 5v5 plays was the best in the league, but his pp play was only above average. When DeAngelo was on the ice I felt he was QBing the PP more than Panarin. When Fox was out there he didn't seem to QB at all.

If you claim that the time to trade him is now, then you have to have an idea of what the return needs to be. So what is a Gaborik return and a first look like?

The Gaborik deal brought Brassard, Dorsett, Moore and a 6th rounder. You want a third liner, second line center whose career has never taken off, a 7th defenseman and a first round pick in return for a 24 year old defenseman who was netting 60 points?
Sorry, I leave proposals up to those that clearly know way more than I do!

Let this team grow for two more years and watch Tony's numbers grow with it . He has wheels , elite passing ability plays with an edge and is wicked on the PP and the opposition blueline ....so his defense sucks a bit . If he plays 5 minutes a night on PP#1 then as a 3rd pairing dman we should only need him for 13-15 minutes max in a game and surely he can be sheltered a wee bit for a couple of less minutes on defensive zone draws ....thus 11-13 minutes of 5 on 5 play . That should be doable and something we can live with and that he will be our 3rd best offensive driver after Mika and Panarin which makes him probably much more valuable than a middle 6 forward/Nylander type player . You mention Nylander for ADA...bad deal for Rangers . One we would regret for a long time . How come Zubov was involved in two terrible trades ? Anyone ?

2020 NYR

Krieds Ziba Buch
Pan Strome Kakko
Krat Lias (that’s right) Chytil
Lemmy Howdie Gauthier
DiG
Lindgren Fox
Miller Trouba
Staal/Smith ADA

Shesty/Georgie (that’s right amnesty used on Hank)

Here's a question that may have been brought up but I haven't read through the thread....

What's a better outcome for the Rangers lottery odds, if the season jumped straight to the playoffs in the current format and the Rangers narrowly missing out and entering the lottery or if the rest of the season was wiped out and everyone got put into the lotto like 2005? Less teams in the former scenario but I'd imagine they'd flatten the odds more in the latter and the Rangers would theoretically have 2 shots at winning if both of Toronto and Carolina's picks hit in the lotto.

Because theres going to be a 6 million dollar cap hit for Shattenkirk's buyout next season.

Yeah and with Staal it's a waste of a roster spot and 11.7m$ of dead cap space, without him it's just 9.7 of dead cap space.

If we should get into trouble re-signing ADA, Strome and company, which I don't expect, we will have to do this.

Regardless of all of that, him taking up a roster spot is enough of a reason.

NHL network showing the 2018 winter classic doc. Fun to see some forgotten names. Paul Carey with the games first goal. But looking at that team, compared our team now . And it’s such a disparity in talent lol. Of course Hank being closer to his prime and McDonagh on the blue line balanced it out.

What I don't understand is what Carey bought to the Rangers and what the coaches saw in him.. He was a minor league scrub that played 12 nhl games before he got a full season. That shower the lack of talent and depth in the orginization in my opinion.
