The very common European first name Rianne.

Was just going to say, used to work with a Dutch girl named Rianne.

While there is some truth to that, there's also a large portion of hockey fans who have xenophobic tendencies and dislike every European player unless they're a superstar.
The "Soft European" brigade. Mostly people in their 50s who never left the state and think they are better than everyone else
I don't think physicality plays an important role in hockey nor do I think being being "soft" makes a player inferior. However, there is significantly less hitting, fights in European leagues compared to N.A. In general, Europeans tend to be less physical. So, I don't think this generalization is completely wrong and said in hatred of Europeans.
Go ask the Bruins or Blues if the boards are played with finesse. It’s ice hockey, not figure skating.
I've never seen an avatar so accurately depicting someone. Congrats
Ahh youre right! I dont know why I thought it was Dan Boyle. Thanks for the correction!Brad Stuart* (man, Nash looked like a different player to start that season, and he wasn't the same the rest of the year after that ****** Hertl highlight/Biron implosion game. Then next season he was on fire most of the year, one of the league leaders in goals, then in February had 'nick spasms', missed one game, and was a shell of himself after that.)
Many forget he turned down the 1972 Team Canada offer for the Russian series .Tkachuk was consistently considered the most underrated player of his time
100% agree, although @Thirty One is a close 2nd.I've never seen an avatar so accurately depicting someone's opinion. Congrats

Fans would be screaming for Morgan Barronov to come over.Im not going to say no one feels that way, but you make it sound like a common occurrence. If you go to MSG then you’ll see a landscape littered with Hank, Zib, and Panarin jerseys. Guys like Hagelin and Zucc were fan favorites. I really don’t see a contingent of Ranger fans trying to throw Euro’s off the team. If you want to say a Fox is a little more likable because he’s more relatable as a local kid who grew up a Ranger fan then I’ll buy that, but I doubt people would dislike if his name was Sundstrom.
On the flip side take a Canadian kid from juniors in the 7th round and it seems like a lazy pick... take a Russian kid and he has “tantalizing potential if he puts it together.” I don’t think anyone means anything by it... just perceptions people have gotten used to.

Same for Boo Nieves. Everyone would scream for him to get a 7 year deal if his name was Booris Nievesoff.
Agreed. Every sport has draft cliches. Some have different ones for black and white players. Here's some NFL draft cliches from Listing 70 of the Worst NFL Draft Cliches, Buzzwords, and Assorted Word Salad :...On the flip side take a Canadian kid from juniors in the 7th round and it seems like a lazy pick... take a Russian kid and he has “tantalizing potential if he puts it together.” I don’t think anyone means anything by it... just perceptions people have gotten used to.
Save your time dreaming about Dylan Strome. He can’t skate. A few years ago I attended several practices at Coyotes training camp and I was shocked how slow he was. Always last across the line when the team did sprints.
Great hands, no wheels. God works in strange ways.

Wow. Practices from a few years ago. Before he scored 2.5pts/60 in actual games?Save your time dreaming about Dylan Strome. He can’t skate. A few years ago I attended several practices at Coyotes training camp and I was shocked how slow he was. Always last across the line when the team did sprints.
