Ignoring this horrific trade proposal in the question, this snippet from Larry's latest mailbag isn't surprising

Thoughts on trading (Jacob) Trouba/(Alexandar) Georgiev to Buffalo for their 1st and 2nd (or 3rd) round picks, assuming the cap is the same? I think it’s beneficial and fair for both sides. — Danny

Sorry, can’t agree with your premise. Management is seeking to solidify this group and put the Rangers in position to make a run at the Cup over the next two to three years, not to stockpile draft picks. And the Sabres are seven-deep on defense, so I can’t envision Buffalo being interested in Trouba, whom the Blueshirts are in no hurry to deal.

The clock to win started the minute Kreider signed his new deal. And also probably means Strome is sticking around which sucks lol

I don’t know. I think Strome to an extent will depend on his expectations for his next contract and his market value. If he prices himself out, they may feel like they can do better with Chytil and giving a chance to someone like Granlund/Haula

If Strome prices himself out, I would imagine Granlund and Haula would be as well. These guys are all in a similar category

So let Chytil take another stab at 2C, the Galy/Haula/Granlund will be insurance/depth.
Rangers dont need no defensive guys like that are soft or injury prone no thanks to Galy or Haula or Granlund. i rather have someone like Barron if signs to win a spot or try to sign a player from overseas that is in their prime or on the young side like when they signed Georgiev as an UDFA maybe a kid like Richards wins the 4th line spot who knows. .

Going from being a UDFA to an NHL player would be quite the jump.

I don't know how they'd fit him in or if it would even be possible, but Barkov would be optimal.

Granlund is going to be too expensive and lol Galchenyuk hasn't been anything other than 'meh' in years.

Pass.

id love Barkov and wait until he is UFA or wait until he forces a trade to NYR. hope he was a Rangers fan as a kid. he can mentor Kakko

Barkov would be awesome, but I think its about as likely as Barron coming in and claiming 2C. Whether its Strome on extension or a UFA replacement, were probably talking about a two-season plug in case Chytil can't claim it next season.

I dont want to waste too much time daydreaming here, but:

Kreider/Zibanejad/Buchnevich
Panarin/Barkov/Kakko
Kravstov/Chytil/Gauthier
Lemieux/Howden/Fast

That's a good-looking forward lineup.

If we lose Fast, bump Gauthier down and sub in Parjuniemi on 3RW.

Word is he is "available" but I don't know what their needs are. If they want young players and futures, we're good to go. If they want more established talent, that's going to be harder to do.

And then there is the whole Salary Cap thing. Marc Staal ruins EVERYTHING

if Gorton wants to make another strong splash via trade or UFA, he needs to make some deals and recoup some assets elsewhere. That would probably mean names like ADA, Buchnevich and Strome would be on the block to return younger, less expensive assets.

Is there any talk about the draft and the repercussions of it occurring without the ability to trade players? Is it "is what it is" or will they modify it in some way?
