Ahhh ok, one would hope that Zucc understand his profession a bit more.

Yeah. I can't believe the Rangers disrespected Lundqvist by making him the highest paid goalie in the world, giving him 8.5m a year for 7 years, with a full NMC. How dare they?!

This whole situation makes me happy he's gone. What a child. Shestyorkin is better. And Lundqvist hasn't really outplayed Georgiev this season either. What should the Rangers do? Just play Lundqvist because of what he has done in the past, instead of the clearly better goalie in Shestyorkin?

By the same Zucc rules, we should bring back Giacomin

Rangers are disrespecting Lundqvist by acknowledging that Shesterkin is better.
Rangers are in a no-win situation with Hank.

Playing Hank more = "Why are we playing Hank more just to lose games and not give experience to the young and actually good goalies in the organization!?!?!?"
Not playing Hank more = "Why are you ignoring a franchise legend who has earned the right to play out the remainder of his contract?!?!?!"

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I don't think we actually know if Georgiev is going to work as a backup. Its been reported that FO doesn't see Georgiev as a starter. We've seen from Georgiev's statements to the press (not very mature) that he does think he's a starter and resented the position he was in this season fighting for starts between a rookie and a legend. As a pending RFA with arb rights, I feel this next contract will be messy and there may be even more hurt feelings on his part. We have our starter with Shesty. If there's a significant offer out there for Georgiev from a team who thinks he can be their starter, we should look into that. Carrying a Shesty/Georgiev tandem is something that could only work for a year or two at most. If Hank wanted to extend to be a Shesty mentor and backup for say 2.5/season, I would be into that. Let him fight for and earn any starts he gets with his level of play.

Or trade him at the draft if Gorton receives a good enough offer.

I guess they're talking about holding the draft before the season ends and not re-opening the trade deadline for players. I dont see how they think that will work, its a real strangle on teams and GMs and how they typically improve a roster. How are you going to have a draft and not allow picks to get traded for roster players? Incredible.

Wait, what??? Did I miss another meeting? How is that possible?

He was salty when Hagelin and Brassard were traded, so it shouldn't come as a surprise. Regarding Zucc's point though: I have no clue where and when the Rangers "disrespected" Lundqivst.

According to the article it is this: He thought Lundquist should have played the matches were Shestjerkin was rested. So no, he has no problem with Lundquist being the back up. Also he think he noticed before the Corona break that Shestjerkin and Georgiev got favorable matches. Lundquist was not playing for long spells and then sent out rusty to face top teams.

From what I remember: Lundqvist was never the 3rd goalie sitting in the press box. Always either the starter or the backup, and that that was out of respect for what he means to the organization. I honestly don't remember which match ups they got, but I do remember Lundqvist playing against Detroit, Dallas, New Jersey and Winnipeg. Not really tough match ups. I never had the feeling Lundqvist was mistreated or disrespected this season. And I have a hard time advocating he was better than Georgiev. I'm not saying Georgiev was playing some stellar goaltending, but Lundqvist didn't really play well enough to prove Quinn wrong.

Hank relieved Shesty against the devils after Shesty was shelled. Hank stopped all SA, but still sat the remaining games. Quinn and/or FO had made up their minds at that point, Hanks play didnt and wasn't going to change anything.

I am not a fan of Quinn, but the goaltending situation is probably something I praise him for. The way he handled it. Sure, they could have done a better job fully exploiting the waiver exemption status of Georgiev early on but maybe management doesn't approach roster management that way and maybe that's just me (being a CBA nut) trying to use the rules to my advantage had I been in that spot. But once Shestyorkin was called up in January, I really did not see a reason to play Lundqvist over Georgiev. It was really a moot point who would play those games. They were pretty equal in 2020.

Like I said before: I fail to see what Zuccarello is complaining about. The Rangers aren't mistreating or disrespecting Lundqvist. And it just sounds like Zuccarello is whining

I dont blame Quinn or fault the decision, regardless of who made it. But I do think sitting Hank was a decision that was made and not because of Hank's level of play in 2020.

Zuuc is sticking up for a good friend. Nothing more to it than that. Whether he is right or wrong does not matter. And for his relationship with Rangers. We all know he wanted to stay in NY and was disappointed when that did not happen. But that is old news.

Players who are unwanted by their teams don't usually have warm and fuzzy feelings, and players, like most people, often stick with their buddies, so nothing Zucc says is a shock. In fact, it's more normal than anything.

As for how Lundqvist was handled. Shesty deserves the lion's share of starts and I don't mind Georgie getting more starts either...However, there is no reason to have Lundqvist go 13 games between starts (2/3 - 3/1), especially when it meant Georgie played back-to-back games twice(!). One or two additional starts means little in a vacuum, but we don't live in a vacuum. To think that one or two extra starts (in back-to-back games) aids Georgie's development or the Rangers' chances of making the PO's is grasping for some possible justification. Lundqvist deserved better than that. Not the end of the world by any means but a slap in the face...and maybe used to show Lundqvist that he needs to accept a trade over the summer.

This.

One additional point...Georgiev will be an UFA in three years. At best, you are going to have him as a backup for two seasons before you consider moving him. He's is not going to accept a long term backup assignment. If there is a good offer available for Georgiev, I am sure as hell listening.

There will be offers (Detroit, Ottawa etc.)

I was just over at the WILD Boards and there was a thread called;

Compliance Buyout; Mats Zuccarello or Zack Parise

So far, this is the votes;

Which player?

  1. Mats Zuccarello 43 vote(s)82.7%
  2. *
    Zach Parise 9 vote(s)17.3%

    # 36 hasn't been turning heads the right way so far there..
