Not a good idea to lock up money during the years that Zibanejad, Fox, Chytil, Kakko, Shesterkin, Lindgren, possibly DeAngelo, Buchnevich have their contracts run out and will need more expensive extensions if they are getting kept. Not saying it would be impossible to trade him at that point but you never know.
It’s not a good idea for Strome either to head to free agency at 30-31-years-old. He takes a 1-year he can go to free agency at 28 after consecutive seasons with Panarin. This guy has taken an ELC, and a pair of 2-year deals. He has to be hungry for something long-term and some serious money.

Best for both parties is a 1-year deal IMO. I don’t want this guy as our 2C long-term. Chytil has been paying his dues.

Teammate of LA right now. Even though were stacked at RD, was hoping we were at least scouting what seems to be a promising young undrafted player.

I think I'm finally experiencing acute hockey withdrawal. I just watched an entire period of an Islander/Sabres game on MSG Plus.

They could win the lottery and then go on to win the Cup. Which is, in fact, what I am predicting.
Not exactly going out on a limb there. It’s pretty obvious. The Rangers always have the luck of the draw on their side. And playoff wins come soooooo easy.

I think holding the draft prior to the end of the season is an incredibly bad idea but if teams are worried that someone can win the lottery and the cup it just goes to show you how poor of an understanding of probability they have. We’re talking about something likely in the magnitude of .01%

Using the Rangers as an example and assuming all the typical formats they have a 2% chance to win the lottery. Per sportsclubstats they have a 0.4% chance to win the cup. That gives you a .008% chance to do both. Really not something worth mentioning let alone using it as a major reason against.

In case anyone was still under the delusion Zuccarello would come back to end his career here

Lundqvist (38) is one of the ice hockey's biggest stars after a 15-year and impressive career for the New York Rangers in the NHL. This season, however, the Swede has been frozen out of club management. A new and upcoming superstar - Igor Shestyorkin - has taken over as the first choice.

"If Lundqvist and we had managed to win the Stanley Cup in 2014, when we were in the final, Lundqvist would have been the biggest legend in Rangers history. I mean that. Now you see that being nice to a club, or taking less pay because you are loyal, turns out to be just nonsense" Zuccarello told VG.

"It is absolutely haunting that he is treated that way. Did anyone ever think that this was going to happen Henrik Lundqvist? None" Zuccarello stated.

"I never thought it would happen to me, either. In my eyes, I was about to end the Rangers career. I think Henke would, too. Everything was going to be fine and great, but then the management decided, and then you are not worth a damn."

Also on his contract with the Wild

Many people may criticize me for "now he goes for the money". No, I went by the length of the contract, says Zuccarello. For Zuccarello, the five-year offer meant he was really wanted by Wild.

Zuccarello also acknowledges that the decision was partly colored by the "sore" parting with the Rangers. He wanted to play for a team in another department, making the number of matches in Madison Square Garden as few as possible.

Zucc's turn from one of my favorite Rangers to a guy I would be fine never hearing from again the last 18 months has been astounding.

You know he's petty enough that he was smiling when he took that Wild contract because it meant the Rangers wouldn't get a 1st round pick.

He's also not wrong about Hank, but that's a conversation for a different day

i mean, is he wrong though? He had to leave money on the table twice for a team that was ok with Torts cutting him. He should have a chip on his shoulder.

He was publicly salty about being traded before it even happened

At this point he should get over it. Or at the very least stop talking about it in public.

I’m fine with him talking about his experience. It’s his right and people will take from it what they will.

Just read the interview.

Regarding the part of chosing a team in another division so he wouldn't play often in msg it's because of how emotional it was for him to be back there.

Also he says the communication with Bruce Boudreau was almost non excisting and zucc thinks the coach didn't use him where he was best fitted and didn't make an effort to get to know zucc and what he brings to the table. He also admitted that he was playing piss poor at times but he felt he was playing better the longer the season lasted.

On a personal note, I don't see how zucc comes of like a whiner here - it's him sticking up for his friend.

Also: He should've stayed in Dallas. But didn't they have cap issues at the time?

Pavelski was talking to them about joining. They made a choice to go and get Joe, but they did try to re-sign Zucc, but he would have been a very good fit for them.

Dallas is an interesting team, some people consider them to be legitimate contenders out West, and they came close to the WCF last year. Their team plays a very tight defensive system and doesn't make a lot of mistakes. So they are built for playoff hockey. If two of Benn, Seguin, Pavelski or Radulov get hot, and their PP ticks, they can be a threat.

Their bottom six forwards are very good, and Heiskanen is a Niedermayer like presence on the backend.
