i think it is entirely possibly that seattle wanted gauthier and agreed to take blackwell as part of a deal beyond the blackwell pick...
That is my guess too, (except it could have been Rooney) just Carp had the Blackwell part backwards.

Seattle takes Gio at the Rangers request

Seattle picks Blackwell at the Rangers request

Rangers pay for both in trade, to get Gio and keep Rooney and/or Gauthier

If true, what they paid, no idea, yet my spidey sense is not happy about it.

Gio should ONLY be had if Seattle will eat half that cap hit and the price is cheap. Using any asset capital we've gained over the past few years and wasting it on an expensive Vet LD on his way out is not the smart plan here chief

Cap hit really doesn't matter, it's only 1 year, Rangers have space. I wouldn't spend assets to try to get them to eat that cap space unless there's some 3D chess going on here where the Rangers will pull some crazy shit and need that extra $3 mill in space

Why does Seattle want Georgiev?

I would think a team like Edmonton would LOVE to move Koskinen and add Georgiev. They just re-signed Smith for 2 years but that isn't a long term solution at 39 years old.

Gauthier is shredded too and he plays like he downs 10 Lexapro with a glass of chardonnay before each period.

That said. Yup. Giordano is an amazing specimen. But knees, hips and shoulder have no muscles and when they go. They go. Age my man. Gets us all.

Seattle is far from done. We haven't seen anything they received for not taking certain players and we have yet to see what assets they get for taking on contracts from other teams.

Lol what contracts have they taken on from other teams? From what ive seen they have selected alot of defenseman and no forwards and none of them have bad contracts. Tera and Landeskog not being taken is a joke, only have the #2 pick which we arent getting, and ALL their selections none of them interest me enough to trade them Buch or even strome. We dont need draft picks unless its for next year, we need a top line center who is young to grow with this core. Not picks who we HOPE to be that 4 years down the road, or prospects who Kraken do not have.

Doesn't seem like Seattle took literally any of the big ticket items.
are you surprised? all the GMs and hockey execs are close. there was probably numerous gentleman's agreements to not take certain players.

Seattle didn't help anyone's cap situation. At least, at the moment.

Yeah, maybe they figured they have more leverage to extract high value assets for absorbing cap AFTER the expansion draft, because then there is no hope of "well maybe Seattle will just take him." Nope, they didn't. So now pay up or you are stuck with your bad contract.

That kind of thing.

You are judging a painting when only the top left quarter is complete. Seattle isn't done yet.

Also, not taking Landeskog is about not signing a 29 year old player to a 7-8 year deal for big money. Also, it's possible they think he hits UFA at which point they can BID ON HIM AGAIN and still take Donskoi.

Seattle selecting Blackwell, and then a trade of Gauthier for Giordano, would make some sense
Francis probably had a tough time choosing between Blackwell & Gauthier ,which sounds weird but I can see it as he has ties with Goat but Blackwell is also a solid depth piece. So maybe Drury got him talking and figured, take Blackwell, we'll trade you Gauthier+ some other small assets for Gio and you'll get the best of both. But my logical part of the brain figures Francis would probably wanna keep Gio as right now he's arguably their best D.

But he's 37 and slowly wittling away

what a mindf***

This is what I am referring to. There are good players available that teams want to move. By Seattle not helping them out, they have forced those teams to need to make deals. They created a marketplace in which they are one of the lone teams with ample cap space
