Three months ago I was one of those people telling you Dvorak was untouchable. That’s what I had been told.

Not now.

What I do know is that the Coyotes owner is cash poor, wants the GM to cut payroll close to the floor and hope he can hold on until he either gets a new building (unlikely) or a gambling license (probable) for the existing arena.

Everything that is not nailed down is being shopped, office staff has been paired and morale sucks. Dvorak is available. The price will be steep but not impossible. Probably three assets…two high draft picks and a top prospect.

If he’s the best choice, the deal is probably there to be made.

Meh.

Ok, then they can keep him, or deal him for another fantasy land package that they are not going to get back, like Byfield from LA or Zegras from Anaheim.

Not sure where I lost you on that... pretty clearly said if a package "like that," can't get Eichel then I pass.

imo, you package is fantasy land. You’re the Sabres GM, you can sell that to your fan base?

Can you sell the fan base on keeping him and having him sit out a huge portion of the season while his value continues to dwindle?

I'm saying there may not be a better offer than what I'm proposing. Where is the Sabres GM getting this magical package that is going to land him an elite talent? Is Minnesota offering Rossi? That might be the only package with a blue chip. I highly doubt Byfield or Zegras are on the table for Eichel.

If Rossi is included then I doubt the offer is much MORE than Rossi. I would say our package contains way more total value. It might be a question of whether a lesser deal but with a single higher end piece might be more valuable to sell to a fan base, or it might be a question of a way better roster overhaul for a dumpster fire of a franchise that badly needs a facelift so it can win some damn hockey games.

Chytil/Buchnevich/Robertson/Georgiev/15OA/Cond.1st (lottery protected)

for

Eichel

Strome/Kakko/Robertson/Georgiev/150A

for

Eichel (20% retained)

these are about what you can expect realistic offers to be from GM Drury and what Adams would want in his checklist. Lotta bulk for BUF here and a huge risk for NYR but could quite possibly be the best trade this team could make in the next decade or for the rest of history

Buffalo got a lot of interest in Robertson btw

yeah, that’s what i’m thinking too and i hate it. I don’t like the cap number, the injury or moving out Kakko.

They should explore Georgiev at Center. His metrics show he occupies the slot area an inordinate amount of time. We may have the next Danault on our hands, amazing defense but his scoring is low.
He’d add some grit none of our centers have too. But seriously lots of players switch positions and I think the best solution may very well be in house. I would want to mold Kravtsov into a C out of anybody though, he reminds me so much of Pettersson who was also a winger in Europe and switched to Center in the NHL. Buch is one of the best defensive forwards in the league though so he could very well do good at center too

Just as an afterthought to my last post in regards to Goodrow being attached at the hip to Chytil. One of the reasons Goodrow is such a valuable commodity to a growing team like the Rangers is his flexibility. Gallant is going to be able to move him around not only between lines but also to different positions based on who is playing well or who may be hurt. The flexibility of having a guy who can literally play anywhere within a lineup is so important with so many unknowns on this team. For example:
Will Chytil be a center?
Will Kaako take a step?
Will Kravtsov prove he’s a top-6 winger?
Is Kravtsov a winger or center?
Will Lafreniere take a step?
Will Panarin gel with either Kravtsov or Kaako?
Will Panarin gel with Chytil?

This team is in flux and guys like Goodrow are easy guys to play with. He knows his role, he plays the game the same way every night and he’s effective.

In saying all of that, it would have been great to add Goodrow to a lineup that included Fast. Either way, the team will need to find a couple more guys like this more than likely.

Kravtsov being able to play center solves like, every problem. Not kidding.

So accept a cr@p package? Start with Kakko, Miller or Nils (or two of the three) and build the offer from there.

Is Minny offering Rossi? Byfield or Zegras on the table? No way right? But Fla is going to move heart throb Lundell to the Rangers for far less talent than an Eichel, right?

Every NHL guy played center just like every MLB player played SS, and every NBA guy played PG.

Pro athletes were the best players on every team they played on, and always played the premium positions.

They were moved off C/SS/PG at some point in their career, for reasons.

Just saying "this guy played C in the past" doesn't mean anything. All the good younger players did.

well, what stopped the team from trying that last season? And when do you give it shot?

Miro Heiskanen’s deal is telling. Fox, Laf & Kakko are going to cost a fortune. Can’t keep all three if you’re going to keep Trouba, Kreider, Zibby and Buch.

A handful of the latter group of names are gonna need to go.

I know I keep being told that Trouba and Kreider are going nowhere and that we need more players like them not less, but what we really need is more players like them who are affordable for their roles, not getting paid elite money in a flat cap to play third line or second pair minutes without special teams time.

I think they are going nowhere IMMINENTLY, but I doubt either one of Trouba or Kreider sees the last year or two of their deals.

Fun fact: Buch used to play center
Something like 3/4 of the forwards and 1/5 of the defensemen who play in the NHL played center in their youth. That's where you play your most talented players on youth teams that have large disparities of skill and physical development on the same squad. Just like how a large percentage of the best players in youth baseball play SS and pitch.

So accept a cr@p package?

Who is paying more than that?

Start with Kakko, Miller or Nils (or two of the three) and build the offer from there.

That is not happening. Certainly not from me. I think Drury "folding," and paying up would include ONE of those names, and I seriously doubt it would be Kakko.

Is Minny offering Rossi? Byfield or Zegras on the table? No way right? But Fla is going to move heart throb Lundell to the Rangers for far less talent than an Eichel, right?

Different teams in different positions.

Also I have never said they "would." Just that I can see it making sense and it's worth aggressively exploring.

Why would you do that when they may be able to get Goodrow for a similar contract and only gave up a 7th.
1. We only gave up a 7th for Goodrow's rights. A signed Goodrow is worth at least what has been proposed for Tanev.
2. Obtaining Goodrow's rights is not a guarantee he signs with us.
3. There is room for both players on the roster. We need more than 1 player that brings what Goodrow does on a game-by-game basis.

I do think currently Larkin is the superior player. But I also think the gap isn’t a huge margin between the 2. Factor in that Larkin is a local kid/ captain, so the cost of acquisition will be greater, potential to fill role we need, contract status, and availability and Dvorak makes a ton of sense as a legit 2C. If chytil eventually passes him, great. Slide Dvo down and he’s be an excellent 3 C as well making under 5 mill from age 25/26-30

It is a huge margin between the two. Dvorak is not a legit 2C. He is probably a 3C on a good team similar to how Gourde was in TB this year.

I mean Laff and Kakko have to produce. Fox won a Norris so as it stands today he should not be lumped together with Laff, Kakko and Shesh.

This team will be in serious trouble if both Laff and Kakko aren't eventually in line for a large pay day.

Shesh will get 5x$5MM AAV more than likely.

Perhaps off topic, but I'm not really married to Shesterkin at this point if his contract demands come anywhere close to presenting possible interference with having space for Kakko and Lafreniere.

I'm still SUPER high on Shesty. Last year and the end to his first season were both weird and I think people forget just HOW good he was a) in his previous pro career, including at the AHL level, and b) in his first season.

Nobody is “replacing” Zibanejad REALISTICALLY unless it’s Eichel. If you’re looking for Dvorak, Chytil or anyone else remotely available to replace Zibanejad you’re likely going to be disappointed. The move (unless it’s Eichel) is to upgrade Strome with a more complete player.
