Go 5 years on Fox. He'll prefer it and the trade can be keeping down some of the AAV. It will take him UFA but by then the cap should be rising again at that point. It's a worthwhile risk.

I hate to take the side of management, but I do think the players kind of owe it to the team to "do them a favor," on these contracts (regardless of whether Fox already did us a favor by maneuvering here)"

I definitely agree with the gist of this, especially over the recent years. We have seen cases where players on teams get disgruntled and become critics of their team's management by saying that their GM didn't surround them with enough talent. However, when star players twist the arms of their management to get the most money that they can, but then criticize their management for not signing enough talent to surround them with, what gives? It's like that player wants full bank for his contract but then wants everyone else to take less. It can be hypocritical.

The Rangers might be building something special. We are also dealing with a flat cap. How much is it worth to these guys to have a team of ass kickers sticking together living in NYC and playing for the Rangers? That's what the team needs to figure out.

If Fox signs for 3-4 years at ~ $8 M - he could be looking at real good money on an 8 year retirement deal (~11 M per but likely smaller cap% throughout most of the contract when combined with the 3 year RFA deal) when $81.5 M cap freeze is over. Probably too much risk involved (especially for Fox), but one can hope...

Sharks don't have a second rounder this year, if it's Geo I'd like to use him to trade back into the second but I guess the market is the market

No its not. Hes a norris winner and the backbone of our defense. Lets stop trying to bridge our young core and sign these guys to LONG term deals. Fox has earned it and i want no part of him being able to leave UFA in his prime.

Drury should be calling about Tyler Johnson

Absolutely not! why in the hell would we want that albotross contract? He didnt even play in the NHL all season long. They couldnt give him away last year and bc he stepped in during the playoffs and played some good hockey, now you want him? He basically had the entire season off. There are much better options via free agency that we can get for less term and less money. That cap space needs to be used on a player who can be a part of the core of this team.

I laid it out a few pages ago, look at his points and how the drop in points relate to his drop in PP time and TOI in general. His possession numbers are solid and he can play RW or C. He’d be a nice stop gap on a 3 year deal if the Rangers were given something of value. He’s probably a 50 point player when given decent playing time and he’s tenacious on the puck.

I’m not trading anything I’d value for him but if TB wants to pay for the Rangers to take him…
