So how much is everyone going to freak out when we do nothing by the roster freeze tomorrow?
not even slightly. We're in a fantastic position where the "best" player we lose this year would be (in my opinion) gauthier. We were in great shape and even have a D protection spot if we really got a deal we liked, but we shouldn't force a move for the sake of it.

Im with you.

but HFNYR does not operate this way.

Leddy was a big part of the isles last two playoff runs I don’t know what people are talking about. Guy can still fly and is a legit puck carrier thru the neutral zone

He gives me the creeps. Dude could probably get away with murder.

Now, am I literally unwilling to make a deal with him for Larkin? Of course not. But I am for sure preparing myself for the price tag well in advance.

Let me put it this way: any proposal in this thread for Larkin that does not make you wince IRL is not enough.

Guys, if we know that adding a player like Larkin to our roster will thrust the team out of the rebuild—officially—of course f***ing Steve Yzerman knows that too.

And $5 that dude is still salty about Lafreniere, too.

We know what the highest of the price tag is. We figured it out, with clues from @Edge

Detriot asking for Kravy OR Nils and the 15th. So maybe we can swindle them down a bit to Jones, 15th, and some other decent prospect. But thats the asking price from Detriot.

Looking at the prices these guys that would be exposed are getting, I'm ok with standing pat. #ProtectHajek

We don’t know what the highest price tag is until the trade happens. Edge knows that better than anyone, too. There’s no law for this scenario: “But, Bettman, please! He said ‘____ & ____’ the other day, and then he added ‘____, ____ & ____’ right before we signed! Arrest that man!”

Jones and #15OA? This is exactly what I’m talking about.

To me the only hesitation on pulling the trigger on Nils + 15 is if we check in with larkin and he's clear that he's walking to UFA. If he's willing to extend with us for a reasonable number and wants playoffs, we can likely fit larkin + mika plus all the RFA stuff we'd need to deal with.

Again, Yzerman created his own market with the Mantha trade. That’s the blueprint. Kravtsov or Lundkvist + 1st. Maybe a flier on someone else as a 3rd piece but that’s more likely to be a Gauthier or Howden IMO.

At this point right now, I’m not interested. Something else to consider, as we’ve seen this offseason more players will be reaching UFA. Teams are in a bind and good players will hit the market. On top of that, it’s POSSIBLE that their contract requests may be lower than past offseason as due to the flat cap.

I’m much more inclined to sign Bonino and take a breath. Move forward with revamping the bottom-6 and bottom d pairing to be actual useful in specific roles. Let the young guys cook for another year and if the right young center becomes available then make a move then.

Buch and Strome are still the guys to move, find a couple of young centers, even guys who project as 2/3C’s.

Sign Bonino and Foligno.

If there is no move before the freeze, I'm totally cool with it. No need to go crazy, but wouldn't mind had they pulled the trigger on a 3rd defender to protect over the likes of Hajek or Bitetto.

They aren't losing a big piece no matter who is taken. The big type trades won't go down until expansion passes and some teams maybe open some cap space up.

The Rangers will be busy enough come next week. I don't doubt Drury will make moves to shape the team he wants.

Unless we are actually going to go out and get a big money player, only 1, not 2 of Strome/Buch need to be traded. And is doesn't even have to happen right away.

Again Detriot is asking for x and y. Its up to drury to make the decision on whether he is willing to give that up or not, and detriot is based on another deal to get better picks.

Are you losing youre mind? Thats how negotiations work. one starts high, one starts low and you meet in the middle somewhere or you dont make a deal.

Yea maybe we can talk them down from their asking price. If not then the MAIN part of the deal is already out there.

I highly highly doubt that IF larkin is traded here that he will want to go anywhere else, he would fit in PERFECTLY here, not have to BE the man, while also having alot of top tier talent around him unlike detriot.

@Edge has also been able to leave enough breadcrumbs to state that IF larkin is traded for that it is with an extension in mind and prob getting done. Only way i see that Larkin walks away is if the rangers have an utter collapse and become detriot.

Also in this flat cap time period he will not be getting bigger bucks than Zibs. So if you can sign Larkin to a 6m per year deal through his prime then perfect. Strome is moved bc lets face it he NEEDS to go. I dont want to be saddled with that shitty contract.

And then we are in the perpetual rebuild. Youre hoping that Chytl can be that #2 center but problem is he hasnt shown he can handle the center duties. So all youre doing is kicking the can down the road in what hopes? For another reclamation project ie strome, which worked nicely but honestly sucks at everything hockey. We need a player that can fit this core team and its needs. Larkin is youre answer. Or we can HOPE that someone else shakes loose. Like whom? Malkin? does nothing for the future of this team to grow with Laf and kakko. Barkov is a dream... Weve had this discussion before. Magic beans. Lets trade for Krebs or Turcotte, who we arent even sure is a center. Yet can they even play in the NHL.

Hope and magic beans.

Larkin is 24yo, a top 25 center in the league, plays the way you want every night, is a leader, good on faceoofs, can play a 200 ft game.

But if Larkin cant be had, then im fine going youre route to take a breath, even though i think strome needs to go asap, and we need to find better centers than say bonino to play 2nd line center since chytl hasnt shown yet that he can play center
