I’m seriously intrigued by Tyler Johnson. His possession numbers have been solid for a long while too and with his skating, he’s been an effective PKer in the past. I think he’s probably more suited to that RW/center in a pinch role but for 3 more years at $5m, if TB either retains or offers some sweetener to take him, and I’m Drury, I don’t hang up immediately.

The idea of Blackwell for Johnson + as a basis for a deal makes some sense from a cap perspective for TB. Similar playing styles and they would save $4m+

Until his mental game catches up to his physical, he’s gonna be a similar player. If that part( vision & hockey sense) increases, then he will be a 2c.

Well, Chytil is a little closer to a Brandon Dubinsky than he is to a Derek Stepan in that his combo of size and speed has allowed him to manhandle competition at lower levels, even the AHL. And as a result, he's not as cerebral as Step or Brass. If he never becomes a top facilitator he will a middle 6 center or he can be a top 6 wing. And eventually I think he could become a strong PK asset as he matures. He's just too explosive and big to not be an effective NHLer. And unlike someone like Gauthier, Chytil's already a fairly reliable player whose proven good at puck possession. Chytil's trajectory may be similar to Zibs or a less physical Dubi. The thing is -- If Fil doens't develop a more well rounded offensive game as he matures, he will have to develop a bit more of a physical edge. The thing is, at the same age, Fil is far more effective than many of his comparables offensively. I would argue he's far outpaced his draft position so far.

I think other teams fans undervalue Strome because if you put him in trade offers people would respond is Panarin coming with him

And what's interesting about that is strome and kreider played some of their best individual hockey last year while they were playing on a line together.

I never understood why Quinn resisted going back to that at times to try to lengthen the lineup and try to expand roles for other guys, and as much as people incorrectly think I'm hating on chytil today this would've been a great way to expose him to more challenging matchups and see if he could be the center for panarin long term.

Tyler Johnson is NOT a good enough reason to help them out of cap hell and give us someone else with a big cap hit that doesnt fit this team. No No and NO

I insisted all year that last season was (or should have been) an evaluative season. Sure every team and every coach is going to try to win as many games as possible, but with the playoffs a real long shot from day one, there really should have been a more evaluative approach to player deployment.

Here we sit trying to navigate a shit ton of uncertainty regarding which players can handle which roles if X player is moved. This situation could have been easily avoided had player usage last year been a bit more, um, strategic.

There will likely be mistakes made constructing this roster that could have been avoided had they chosen to collect some data instead of chasing a fantasy land playoff aspiration.

Panik and a 2nd for Leddy.

Some think Leddy has lost a step. I like this move for the team I despise.

Garland reportedly being shopped. Ugh, what a player. Wish he was a center.
Garland is a good (smaller) player with a lot of bite but he is constantly getting beat up and there's real fear he will wear down (e.g. Callahan) He's also two years away from UFA and expecting a big contract. The Coyotes are trying to get ahead of having to give him a large high risk contract.
