We've failed to draft an NHL regular outside the 1st round since Igor in 2014.
Sure, but the odds of that are always low in the first place.
Getting any nhl games out of a player past 20th in the draft is already a low percentage.
We’ve successfully traded for and acquired a significant amount of our roster without using unrestricted free agency, that’s a successful organization.

The last point is a very good point. Rangers got absolute steals of trades for Zibanejad/Fox which helps soften the blow that they haven’t developed a top forward yet since then.

Barron in 2017. He's not here now but was let go in a legit hockey trade and we did both draft and develop him.

If Jones can stick and Cuylle comes up it suddenly looks pretty normal again

Defense is still fairly young. If Cuyle and Oth make the team they will have 5 young forwards as well.

Fair enough. Makes the Copp rental hurt even more.
First round pick
2nd round pick
Above avg bottom 6 guy who's huge

Yeah, that was the one that felt most like a 'cup or bust trade at the time, and even without hindsight Copp probably wasn't the best guy to make that kind of trade for.
Maybe if they were convinced that they wanted to re-sign him and he was interested in staying...

I know this goes against everything I post on here, but what a great time to give Goodrow a well-deserved raise.

Guys, Goodrow is here for this year. It's done. They planned all the moves around it.

His buyout looks fine next offseason too.

Is is possible they might acquire someone as part of a trade they plan to buyout like a cap dump situation or to make salary work?

Not allowed.

Buyout Period

Buyouts can start on the later of June 15 or 48 hours after the Playoffs end, and the buyout period ends June 30 at 5pm Eastern.

Teams may receive an additional Buyout window. If a team has a player go to arbitration and it is either settled or awarded, the team receives a new 48 hour buyout window beginning 3 days after the arbitration settlement or award. The only contracts that are eligible to be bought out in this window are for player with Cap Hits greater than $4M AND they were on the team's roster at the last trade deadline.

The player has to have been on the Rangers roster at the last trade deadline in March. A team can't trade for a player and buy the player out.

With 2 years left in the summer of 2024, we'll see if Drury can move Panarin to a team that's looking to make the playoffs and win back some fans. San Jose and Anaheim are going to suck wads again this season. At some point they have to win back fans and a 2 year $11.67 deal is very absorbable for them. Even pawn Panarin off in his final year at the deadline for a big return if they're not in a winning position.

If Drury has the will, he can make it happen. Panarin will get another crack at being better in the playoffs. He's shaved his head, not much more he can do to banish bad voodoo and turn the page if he stumbles again this year.

No offense but the top 15 center label made me laugh. I like Zibs so its not a slight on him. Just thinking saying top 15 first line center is like saying a little better than average when there are 32 teams. I understand though. There are alot of good centers.
IMO Mika is a Top 12 Center, at times can play like a Top 7 or 8 center. But he's unarguably a Top 15, in a league where there's about 20-25 Centers who play at a level where several years ago they might've been considered Top 5.

There's a crapload of talented Centers in the NHL right now, and no, Top 15 doesn't mean average. It means the better half of all the 1Cs in the league. Average would be bottom half 2Cs.

Don’t forget to include Tank in your Drury/Scanlin/Goodrow conspiracies.

Im not commenting on Zibs but in a 32 league team I look at things in tiers. Top 12 would be above average. 13-20 would be average. 21-32 would be below average.
