I mean, to me again goes back to how much you believe a coach and system make a difference. Panarin wants to freewheel but that just isn't a thing that can happen in the NHL. This playing aimlessly and with no plan or strong guidance from the coach has resulted in him being less effective IMO

whether that changes under laviolette we'll see but players having a more clear gameplan and executing it should IMO result in better 5v5 play for everyone
Plenty of players freewheel, especially with the puck.
But there has to be an understanding from your linemates on how to support that, if you’re not gonna bury the puck yourself.

When mcdavid starts circling the net, drai goes to the opposite corner.
When Marner starts circling the blue line, Matthews goes to a dot.

It's not lost on me that you get on Laf for his lack of commitment and your avatar is a Kovalev Rangers jersey
Very different players. Kovy when he was young had a near unlimited gas tank. He worked on his skating and stickahnding thousands of hours.

I can't picture Stutzle being a star here. How many forwards need to get worse here before the team is the problem?

The team is the problem for sure. That needs to be fixed. Hopefully with Peca and Muse we are taking some steps there?

Lafrenière remains very calm with this reality. He always imagines himself in the uniform of the “Blue Shirts”.

“Yes, I spoke with Chris (Drury) our general manager, he told. I know the negotiations are going well. I remain confident. I keep a day-to-day mentality.”

Negotiate a future contract

After three seasons in Manhattan, Lafrenière will now need to sign a new contract by the team's next camp. He's finished his rookie deal. In theory, the left winger should get a short-term pact (bridge contract) since he didn't get the numbers to break the bank.

“I have confidence that we will find an agreement, he replied without going into details. I don't control this portion too much. We'll see."

First overall selections at the Wing position since 2000: Nash, Kovalchuk, Ovechkin, Kane, Hall, Lafreniere.

You really need to be a special player to be taken first overall as a winger. What is wrong with this team?
There wasn’t a center who was clearly better. Bad luck?

yeah I mean, there's playing creatively within a structure that good teams/players tend to do. Panarin and the teams problem has been that no ones linemates seem to know what the other person is gonna do and there's a ton of watching and waiting to see what is going to happen which results in slow and ineffective play. Panarin often doesn't have particularly good options to pass to because eveyone is spread out over the ice requiring a pass all the way across through 3 opposing players just to get to a teammate that will then still be too far from the net to get a good chance

IMO Gallant relied a lot on player "chemistry" to just figure that out rather than having some details coached into them

I can’t get past how much I can’t stand 13. In all my years, I’ve never seen a more illegitimate goofy jackass in a lead role. 1 ov, man did he have everyone fooled. If you think he’s going to grow into anything of value, you’re going to be massively disappointed. It goes without saying that I would include him in any Nylander deal. More realistically, I envision an October stat line of zeros that could fuel an accelerated exit.

This sounds like a personal problem.

Most Russians generally don’t like the small markets (Carolina/Ottawa). Vlad has a supermodel wife and kids. If a Goodrow trade goes down outta nowhere you know something is up.

Well based on past experiences with guys who want to be Rangers like Vlad, I think theres a decent possibility that he is telling his new agents to circle back with the Rangers and see if something can be worked out. Whether that includes a discount and/or Goodrow trade, i guess we'll see what happens. Signing Wheeler for nothing gives Drury solid bargaining position, because were not as desperate for a RW as we were a week ago.

I think this.. Vlad really wants to remain in one place, he’s stated that for awhile now. He is a family guy and felt bad about uprooting his kids and wife from St. Louis. He appeared to really enjoy his time here and maybe his family really wants to be here too. Can’t wait to see how this plays out.

As long as he doesn't go to Carolina, I'm happy.

I don't disagree with much of what has been said about Laf and echo the concerns, but I will like to see him under a new coach who is known to push his players much more than our previous 2 that are known to coddle or leave to their own devices. Laf seems like someone who needs direction and the occasional swift kick in the ass.

It’s too bad Kakko and Laff didn’t dominate right off the bat as superstars during their ELC’s. But when you step back and see they both jumped right into the show, anyone writing them off as effective top 6 players, and first liners at some point, are overreacting based on their draft position.

You only need to look at the history of some of our other prospects who took maybe 5 or 6 years to develop.

I wonder if there’s a chance we see Perrault in less than 3 years. Maybe 2? He’s better than Othmann. And this is Othman’s D+3 and he’s probably expected to be AHL this year to start.

Perrault said his plan is 2 years in college, and considering how much he needs to fill out, that sounds about right. He’s not short, but he probably needs to add about 30 lbs of muscle, and some burst to his game

He very well could make the team on talent and merit alone in 2024. Said this as soon he was drafted. However, with Smith and Leonard also going to BC, those two guys are likely one and done and in the NHL. I'd let Perreault cook for at least his sophomore season to see if he'd create offense at the same clip as he would with Smith and Leonard on his line.

My antenna is up over this Tarasenko thing. If a guy wants to be a Ranger, he usually becomes one. I know there are rumors out there about Ottawa, but considering he has already turned down fairly significant contract offers, from better teams, idk if it makes sense. Why fire your agent if you are just waiting for a team to clear cap space?
