Waiting to see the terms. Expecting to be upset that we didn’t bring him back while moving on from Goodrow.

I mean I also want the kids to get their shot in the top six with better talent so it’s a double edged sword.

Elliotte Friedman discussed Lafreniere needs to step up. The Rangers fired Gallant and hired a new coach because it wasn’t going to work with Gallant and Lafreniere. Easier to fire the coach. The Rangers brought in Laviolette and Peca to change things up. They are hoping Peca can work with him. Elliotte said the Rangers are an older team. He read Brooks. Larry is the same f***ing bitch who wants every big name. How did his boy Patty Kane work out? Kane was the biggest clusterf***.

I agree Lafreniere needs to take the next step but it's not all on him. This stupid franchise needs to be better. Give him more opportunities. Same thing with Kakko.

Preach brother.

The speed aspect of roster building is so overrated. Would I prefer a fast team? Yes. Can being outskated kill your team off in the playoffs? Yes. But the speed differential is often just the factor that exposes or mitigates bad team hockey and a lack of systematic play, and that's what happened against the Devils.

We all watched the 2014 Rangers skate circles around the LA Kings and still lose 4-1 because a heavy, slower, possession-oriented team that had a solid identity built over years was able to control the game in the later periods.

There's a such thing as slowing the game down to your pace, which is what good teams are able to do when they need.

Again, I absolutely prefer to be a team that is great at driving possession AND has speed, but the latter isn't an option for us this year. We do, however, have the potential to be a really good possession driving team with this roster and coaching staff.

The rangers are not going to win anything with these players and contracts.

It’s a shame we have al these NMC because we are stuck with the same core. Nothing will change. Maybe we will be a slightly better 5 on 5 team but it won’t matter much overall.

I feel they are delaying the inevitable, really wish we can just rebuild. We can’t win with a winger making 11+ million who doesn’t dominate every-time he is in the Ice

We have Norris and Vezina winners in their prime, an All-NHL superstar forward and a bonafide Top 15 #1 Center, and you want to tear it down?

Team has depth and winning players. Like a lot of teams, if things break right we can be a monster.

Carolina doesn’t scare me, like at all. Their goaltending is mid and they lack that high end guy to really put a dagger. I like vladi but he’s not putting them over the top or anything. They’re just a really deep team who will be a pain to eliminate.

Saving this post for when we win the cup this year.

The biggest 3 words here are "if the kids". It is time they put up or shut up. If they play well they will have earned more playing time but it needs to be for that reason.
Or if the coach wants to put them in positions of responsibility, with more minutes, to see if they rise to it, like most teams do with their high draft picks, that would be fine with me too.

Tarasenko is gonna be a pain in the ass with that lineup. They all play like him, gonna be a hard game every time we play them.

If it wasn't already obvious, Gallant and Drury didn't see eye to eye on the kids usage. Its why you'd see Laf with Zib for a period and then they'd say it doesnt work, or when they tried him at right wing for a game and said it wouldnt work, that was just to shut Drury up basically. Everyone knows you can't just put someone on their off wing for a week and call it quits if you truly need or want him to play there. Same with Kakko staying in the top 6, same with Chytil as a 2c, and with Miller for pp2. Hopefully the new staff is more willing to try things for an extended timeframe. I'm telling you now, Lafreniere is gonna look like a totally new player in the fall.

I STILL disagree with the premise entirely. If a guy is playing both the PP and PK throughout the game then others benefit with more even strength ice time because said player is gassed from those two elements.

And, in context, it's particularly glaring given the Rangers "1st PP Unit" is typically out there 1:15-45 of EVERY power play under Gallant. If you've got 3-4 PP's in a game, 3-4 PK's in game, of course his even strength ice time is going to be skewed.
That’s fine, you’re allowed to disagree with the actual numbers that you supplied showing he plays fewer EV minutes than more than two lines worth of players…

Personally i think we're in a holding pattern because we need the kids to be major parts of this and we've wasted the last two years "going for it" instead, trading high picks and signing a long term deal to Trochek when we were already cash strapped already and we weren't ready to compete with the high end teams yet was short sighted.

We will compete when Laf, Kakko and Chytil are major parts of our forward group, no sooner.

Laf was playing well with Panarin and Trocheck. Trocheck even praised playing with Lafraniere and said he only needs a chance. That has to be by moving him or Kreider to the RW (or Kreider to LW3)

Let’s say Laf is playing very well but Kreider is scoring close to 40 goals still. Is that Laf’s fault he can’t break into the top 6 or more so how good Kreider has been?

One has to move for Laf to get a real shot that a 1 OA pick should get

Unfortunately Goodrow will be in the top 9 bc of the $ he makes. Most likely 3rd line winger.
I don't think so. He's been his most effective here as the 4th line anchor who effectively kills pims. He struggles when he plays up the lineup much. I really believe vesey will get that last rw spot in the t9 but who knows. Maybe othmann will impress enough to get an audition, although I hope he's in the AHL until New years.

The thing that gets exhausting is that he played mostly with players that either were members of the top 6 or are players that everyone here wants to be members of the top 6 this year. It's not like he was playing with Kevin Rooney and Ryan Hollweg. It's a weird thing to criticize who he played with and then want him AND the guys he played with to all be in the top 6. It's a paradox of an argument.

Most people point to pp usage and opportunities, although he has looked like a mess on the pp. If there is ANY truth to the report that they feel his skating is now such an issue that they asked him to evolve to a net front guy then that's the core of it all. They don't think he can play his game at this level so they are trying to change his game and it's made him a mess. The bottom line is the kid needs to do something and start being noticeable. That doesn't mean scoring every other shifts, but he needs to do something to actually impact games and be noticeable instead of just being there and laughing a lot.
