Zadina is the exact same player today he was when he was drafted. If he didn't develop from 18 to 23 I think that's it.
I’d still take a flyer on him.
If we could move goodrow to afford him I’d love it.

I think Zadina is unfortunately never gonna be a guy who dominates a line on his own, but he’s also never played with talented players.

Put him on a line with Chytil and panarin and I think he could put up 25 goals+

I'd make that move just to get away from Goodrow's cap hit. I like Zadina the player as well and I like that he has some history with Chytil. 2 more years @ $1.825m

Another LW.

Pick up Zadina, keep Othmann up, bump Kreider to HFD. All the left wings.

Thats my thought.

He's got great underlying numbers, was forced on the 4th line in detroit (because theyre worse than us at developing), so he's gonna play a solid puck retrieval game already.
He had a fantastic shot coming out of the draft.
Having panarin set him up could do wonders, and he's not just a 1 year addition.

Let them buy out Zadina and we can sign him for league minimum. The only teams claiming him how are those trying to make cap floor or rebuilding.
Zadina is 100% going to get claimed. If tolvannen got claimed, Zadina would be as well.
If I'm the penguins, i make this move 100x out of 100.

When is the next buyout window?
Someone on detroit would need to file for arb, then theres a small window to buy it out once the decision comes in. But also not sure they can buy out that contract. Its less than 4 million.

I don’t think it’s for a buyout. That window is closed currently, not sure exactly when the 2nd buyout window starts up. They’re prob hoping some team will claim him so they can try and make a move for either Nylander or Debrincat.

I would hate this. This is a dead ringer for a buy low candidate, put him with Crosby and suddenly turns into a 35 goal scorer than burns the Rangers for the next 10 years.

You’re right- I forgot about the $4m rule.

Pens are already in negative cap space.

Offer Detroit a 5th rd pick to retain half.

He has a 7.5% chance of his SOG going in 190 games.

Kakko, who famously whiffs on golden chances, scores on 11.7% of his SOG.

Dude is a scoring winger who cant score. At the NHL level he is worthless, as evidenced by being a former top 10 pick with term who got waived.

Dude is a scoring winger who’s never been given time with anyone who can pass the damn puck. He’s been forced to create chances on his own, he’s got great transition and solid defensive numbers in absolutely minuscule ice time.
This is a buy low candidate.
Throw him on a line with panarin, let him do that same dirty work fast did, but then he’s got an actual shot.

7.5% is defenseman numbers. K'Andre Miller has that number.

An apples to apples case is Eeli Tolvanen who spent years in Nashville's bottom 6 playing with nobody grinders who couldn't pass him the puck either, and he got waived with term too, but he has an 11% goal rate on his shots because he can actually score goals.

The thing about buying low is most of the time things are properly priced.

Meh. I think if the cap floor teams were really interested in adding Zadina they would've offered up future considerations for him. He's on a back-loaded contract that runs through next year and gives him $2.7M in salary. Which means he's going to have a high QO and arbitration rights when it runs out.

This is really a last hope to get him moved for free.

Better goal scorers than FIlip Zadina (200 NHL game minimum):
Kevin Rooney
Barclay Goodrow
Carl Hagelin
Brandon Prust
Mike Rupp

This is fun.
Sure but Zadina isn’t a crash the net guy, he’s a top 6 scorer who has never been given any real ice time with guys who can distribute, so the fact that he’s generating shots is because he’s trying to create on his own.
Sure he’s a reclamation prospect, but seems like a perfect fit for us.
He’s speedy, has solid transition numbers, looked great w Chytil.

I think the issue here is you are talking about talent and I’m talking about non special teams ice time. Which he was not in the top six of. Which you brought up... I’m not arguing that he’s not a first line talent. I don’t care what we call him, but hopefully the kids start getting (and deserving) increased time and responsibility across the board. People get caught up in line numbering. I personally dont give a shit what we call the lines.
In any case, even though Kreider is a beast, he might benefit from more judicious use as he advances into his mid 30’s.

Nah. The conversation began with you saying:

"You realize if he had less even strength ice time than 6-7 forwards then he’s basically a third line player right??

I don't base whether or not he's a top six winger based on even strength ice time which is what you're doing as evidenced above.

He's third on the team, 2nd among wings, in ATOI. He's a first line player. You can't take that away from him because he's relied on to kill penalties and score on the power play which will, naturally, take away from his EV/ATOI.

He's also among, if not our best, 5v5 player. If anything, as much as I like him on the PK, I think his PK minutes should be relegated to a specialist for that role (Vesey, Goodrow, etc...) and get him out there more to improve our 5v5 play.

The only way the kids get more is if Lafreniere makes a go of it at RW. Kakko with Kreider on line 1, Lafreniere with Panarin on line 2. Hopefully the team, and the player, can make that work.

I also hope Laviolette curtails the length of the PP1 shift so that others (Laf/Kakko/Chytil) actually get more than fifteen seconds to do something.

HIs second most common linemate the L3 years is Dylan Larkin.

I still feel like Tarasenko might be in the plans for us. Dont know how but why hasn't he signed yet?

I mean the only way he could come back is on a $1M deal. Could he be interested in a 1 year $1M deal then cash in next summer? Sure but I'm sure other teams could offer him more money for that 1 year deal.

He'd have to really want to come back to take that type of deal from the Rangers. It's also a risk if he got hurt during the season. Then he might not be able to cash in next summer.
