Two biggest things are going to be if the vets are ashamed of their performance to give a shit a little bit more and if Laviolette has the stones to bench them when they're stinking up the joint.

It's not a hard game, but it is when the best players want to flee to the side boards and make themselves easy to defend instead of going in the hard areas often.

This.

Quinn and Gallant were cucks to the vets. Zero accountability.

this is where I'm at. This roster is gonna get another chance with a few tweaks.
-Garand is just a placeholder

If Lavi wants a 'checking line' it could be Kreider Trocheck Engvall

Fast could be a substitute for Engvall
I think laf certainly gets more than that coming off a 40 point season at 21

2 year bridge probably starts with a 4.xxx

Dahlin was seen as not living up to his #1 spot (and while still doing better than Laf) he bridged for 3x6m

In this cap climate I'll be surprised is its not under 3M per.

Dahlin also did that bridge before the Covid shut down. Flat cap changes some mechanics.
Hughes signed an 8x8.

NHL has predicted the Cap is going up 4-5m next year so I think unless it's a 1 contract it will be higher than many predict. But of course, I could be as wrong as jovo's love for he who shan't be named.

Vince was on Jeff Marek’s show yesterday and mentioned in the last minute of the interview that from what he’s heard, he’s expecting Laf to come in at around a similar bridge deal as Kakko, maybe with a slightly higher AAV.

$4M in this economy? I just dont see it.

Maybe if we were AZ and needed to get to the cap floor.

No way he is getting 4M.

Hathaway/Fast/Sheary types. We can maybe sign more than 1 if the players pay off the escrow and the cap goes up 3 mil. Add Cuylle/Othman to the big club. Robertson and Jones can rotate on D. Edstrom/Sykora/Berard could provide energy on the lower lines as the season goes on. I’d love Wilson but it’s a pipe dream. We know they’ll add at the deadline if they’re in the mix (they will be).

These players. There are more players. Some players will be bought out. Not qualified.

$1M-$1.25M. Less than $1.5M.

Kampf
Acciari
Motte
Bjugstad
Hathaway
Donato?
Nosak
Bonino

While playing on his ELC, Kakko scored at a 30.3 point pace per 82 games. He got 2.1 mil.

Chytil scored at a 31.3 point pace and got 2.3 mil.

Laf has scored at a 34.5 point pace and has also been healthier than either of the other two. He will get more than they got, though how much more remains to be seen. It should be somewhere between 2.5 and 3 mil.

Nhl has said the cap is going up 1m. Unless they bend (without the players giving something) because the owners force bettman to bend.
It’s going up 1m now and then probably 10m the following season.

It's going up 1m this season, 4m 2024 and 5m 2025.

Noting that Bonino played under Laviolette in Nashville. Auston Watson also. Craig Smith is also a UFA that played not only in Nashville but went to WSH in the Hathaway trade this TDL. Wonder if he can be had at a low term league minimum contract.

Imo we shouldn't be paying more than league minimum for 4th liners, if this organization can't fill that line with guys they drafted by now its a massive fail especially if Goodrow is anchoring that line with Vesey.

There's just too much random error in the playoffs to try to emulate every cup winning team.

Better to try to emulate the multi winners. Pittsburgh, Chicago, LA, Boston (though they won just one, they went to 2 others). There are common threads. Multiple superstar forwards, namely.

That one isn't fair. The Rangers offered him a contract. He just didn't accept it. Likely cause he thought Torts wouldnt give him a chance, which is probably true.
which is crazy since Torts always wanted more JAM in his lineup....

But Blueger is stricly a defensive/matchup/PK 4center, probably cheaper than Acciari.

Acciari can score some goals, throw his weight around and is decent defensively.

Cuylle Acciari Vesey as our 4th? I would like a guy like Kolesar but I guess Cuylle could be that guy eventually.

Imo we shouldn't be paying more than league minimum for 4th liners, if this organization can't fill that line with guys they drafted by now its a massive fail especially if Goodrow is anchoring that line with Vesey.
Goodrow is an anchor... and it needs to be cut loose.

A hypothetical line of Cuylle Acciari Vesey would be cheaper than Goodrow. Around $800k cheaper and you actually get better.

Bridge Lafreniere $2.5 x 2.

Try to bridge Miller at $3.5AAV x 2.

Those contracts could come back to sting in 2 years but you will be banking on cap going up and you will be nearing the end of the contracts of Panarin/Kreider/Trouba. If Laf/Miller earn big raises then you have them replacing the vets.

Bring back Tarasenko. Find a way. Make it through this year and cap will go up next offseason. $5 x 3. Or try to do $4.5 with performance bonuses that would get him to $5-$5.25 that roll into following year’s cap. We could see a lot of contracts structured like that this offseason.

3LD will be at or near league minimums. Has to be.

Cuylle/Othmann can compete for spots.

Goodrow has to be traded or bought out for the above to work.

4th line vets signed to less than $1 million.

Halak/Raanta/Talbot signed to $1 million or less.

My last piece is Kane. Can you sign him $3 x 2 and LTIR him through December without cap implications?

We should find a way to get McDavid interested in the Rangers. Maybe a model girlfriend or a talk from Messier. Let him know most the greats come here eventually so might as well come in his prime. Im okay with a 7 for 1 trade lol 😊

No shot. Laf will have a 2 year bridge around $2.6

The Rangers are a big team.

The difference between the heaviest and lightest teams is 15 pounds.

The difference between the tallest and shortest team in the league is 1.5 inches. One point five.

If you wanna talk about play-style, and which teams play "heavy," I'll hear that out.

If we're gonna bring height and weight into it, I'm going to politely remind you that NHL teams are all effectively the same size.
Mental aspect is definitely a factor. "Big" teams can play small. Marek Malik was a giant. He wasn't physical at all. Brad Marchand is small he plays big.

Rangers are just weak mentally, lazy, and have no guts. Maybe Laviolette changes that, maybe he doesn't. But they're not small they just play that way.
