I don’t know if Tarasenko will take that low of a contract. 3 years sounds fine, because of his age, but I think he could command like around 5 million on the market.

If he wants to stay, for a few more years, he would have to take an extremely team friendly deal.

Panarin‘s 11.6 million has really handcuffed this team, but when he scores 2 goals in a game, then really can’t complain.
But....fans should be complaining ! Just because he hits 90 points is no reason for him to coast when he feels like it . If he played to his potential he likely is a 125 pt scorer ! Same deal with Kreider.....I don't care how many he has scored the last 2 seasons . He SHOULD be a 40 goal scorer for a few seasons now and a team leader every night and busting down the left side knocking D down and making life miserable in the crease for the D and the goalies . The way they perform is not the example I like seeing being set for our kids .

As fans we should not be content with either being OK . That intangible where you always attempt to play harder and better is what makes teams Cup winners and not pretenders . I know I can't be the only long time suffering Ranger fan that thinks they are underachieving and have MUCH more to offer if they were to extend themselves more often . The great players do.....neither one of the two has done that .

"Fine" is such a good word for Kane right now. How's your luke warm soup? "It's fine."

I really hope we're done with Kane after this season.
I've seen enough to believe he's going to get shot up when the time is mattered, and people to be an important enough contributor. I think at my youngest I didn't value Cup-winning experience at all. As I got older I probably over-valued it, but to me there is no doubt in it's merit. Not to mention he seems to fit in with our team chemistry aces.

I have 0 issue with a 1 year sweetheart deal to run it back, especially if we can get clever with fitting him and Tank like I mentioned.

That being said, my personal first option is to absolutely keep Tank and let Kane fit in where he does if he wants. I wouldn't be broken up with him walking.

I feel pretty similar and it's probably an unpopular take.

CK is frustrating because it looks like he can be much better. I don't think that he has great hockey awareness out there. Spaces out in the defensive zone too many times. I saw something in the Athletic about him being a Selke candidate and I thought, wut? . It's great that he has figured out the angles for rebounds and the place to be for tip-ins, but it just feels underwhelming with his physical attributes.

Panarin drives me nuts. Offensively gifted beyond, but just as terrible defensively. He is almost as responsible for giving up as many points as he scores. Most of it is effort. Everyone applauded that one defensive play last night, but how many others did he give up on? Half of the time he is trying to leave the defensive zone instead of helping out on defense. There was a play last night where he could have gone for the puck in the defensive zone, but coasted and let his opponent get it which led to several chances for Buffalo.

I also think that fundamentals are bad these days. Do they even coach defense nowadays or is it all special teams practice? It was ingrained in me since I was like 8 years old to focus on defense. There is no more physical play in front of the net. The Rangers never make the safe chip the puck out play either. It's always some cross ice pass or some lame clearing attempt that goes straight to the point defenseman. Way too many players dangle, make drop passes entering the zone, and make too many cross-ice passes leading to turnovers. And Jesus Christ, I don't even want to describe what happens in our defensive zone. We'll have both defensemen in the corner leaving an uncovered guy in front while our centers daydream. Or our defense is positioned in nowhere land. Playing man to man, but not a playing a man. Sigh.

Anyway, we have a good team, but it feels like they can play better. Most of it is just making an effort on defense or making the occasional safe play instead of some foolish risky pass. Oh and shoot a little more often, too.

It isn't like the video games where you open the trade tab when you're ready.

It's a full-time job and GM's are constantly privy to the market for their players.

That's not to say front offices don't do very silly things, but I don't think they would just let a player go that they felt he was a chip.

With the Canes and Devils looking like they are going to win tonight, Rangers can't move higher in the standings. I'm assuming they don't have the cap space to bring up some of the kids to play the last game?

Nope. We've got about 1k in cap space.

Yep. We could have done the same.
Lindgren was really our only opportunity. We also started slower this season. and came closer to the cap than the leaf's.
The leaf's have used ATO goaltenders multiple times this season. We wouldn't/ couldnt do that.

If they fall to the Devils in the first round i may need to hop a flight to a thrid world country and live out the rest of my days there.
Betting the house on a first round win?
I want to put a sum on that so i can use the earnings to go to round 2.
I don't sports gamble though haven't done research on where to do it/which promos to use

Do we have cap space to rest anybody for the final, meaningless game?

Edit: never mind. Saw the comment+reply a few above my own.

The Rangers have basically been coasting for weeks and ice time has been spread out. They will definitely have another gear or 2 for the playoffs. They will essentially only play 1 meaningless game against Toronto for the week heading into the playoffs which start April 17th or later depending on the actual schedule. They may lose in the first round but it won't be because they weren't rested.

We can’t even rest guys without going short in the line up. Don’t have any cap to call anyone up, which sucks.

Yes I know, but they will still be ready to go next week. They have been in 2nd gear for weeks now and the schedule this week is light with no travel. Maybe they can rest Fox and a forward against Toronto and play 11/7 with Harpur playing. That will give Fox a full week off before playoffs begin next week.

Depends on who has a nagging injury but yes Harpur should be in and playing 20 minutes for sure.
