For as slow as Copp is (and not having a great year) I would say he was more effective than Kane has been for the NYR. Much better fit. I hope that all changes once the playoffs and he hopefully can pick his game up a bit.
Before we traded for Copp our 5v5 numbers were suspect and we were heading to the playoffs on the strength of a fantastic PP and a vezina goaltender.

Before we traded for Kane we had a strong 5v5 team, a solid to above average pp, solid to above average goaltending.

We had less room to grow with adding kane.

Fair enough. Just saying overall game and helping in different ways besides offensively. Kane right now is more of a liability if he's not contributing at the offensive end and especially pp.

Sure kane is a liability right now, I dont think anyone is really arguing that, but he's also on a line where he's able to be a bit of a liability at the moment and its covered by mika and kreider.
7-10 years ago, we would've traded for this version of kane, and expected him to carry the line.

There is no question Kane is laboring and is playing though hurt but like to see how he does in the playoffs before reserving judgment on that trade.

But we didn’t pay an arm and a leg for him, so if it doesn’t work out, not the end of the world.

Someone suggested this pages ago, I'm not Cap fluent enough to know, but if Kane takes a very sweetheart deal, ($2.5 mil?) maybe we can LTIR that right away? The rehab time IIRC for fixing his hip could run pretty close up to the trade deadline. Is that a realistic scenario to then get Tarasenko on a decent deal and help us bide some time until next year when Cap really goes up?

Think Goodrow without any retention returns a 2nd and a decent prospect.

Give that contract amount to Tarasenko for 3 years. Sign Motte for longer term (3 years) for a lower cap amount ($1MM). Gives him some security where he isn't moving every offseason and then again at the TDL.

Depending on how much the cap goes up see if you can get Mikkola reupped around $1.75MM for 2 years. Re-sign Miller 3 years $4MM. See if Laff will take a 1 year deal at $2MM and then sign long term the following summer when the cap really jumps.
I second your fair value for Goodrow.

Kane is fine because he's not being asked to carry any specific line.
He's clearly injured and will likely get some shot to help play better in the playoffs.
"Fine" is such a good word for Kane right now. How's your luke warm soup? "It's fine."

I really hope we're done with Kane after this season.

Kane is cooked, Drury should be making moves to keep Tarasenko even though it’s very unlikely it happens
He’s 31 and is pretty clearly a solid family guy, he’s already stated that he doesn’t like a lot of change so stability is important and NYR treat their players 1st rate. His market is 5mx3, im confident that we can go 4-5 years and get him for 4.25-4.5. RW depth of him, Kakko, Vesey, and Cuylle is solid with Othmann on the horizon.

As a piece taking cap space, absolutely but whats the risk of signing him for 1 yr at like 2.5 mil, letting him have surgeries galore, stashing him on LTIR and come back to see if he can help us in the playoffs?

Wish we hadn’t gotten Kane. He looks hurt/washed up disinterested yet has that HoF resume (from another team) that means we have to cater to him on PP, OT,shootout. Screw him, he’s not a Ranger legend. Play him in a role he deserves from his play. Tarasenko was the right move. The guy cares, adds to the team chemistry and should be on PP1
I kinda agree with this.

Im not sure if its a disinterest, I think it may be a realization/frustration he's not the same player and its affecting his fit with the team.

It feels like a comfort/confidence/swagger thing - something we thought we'd be getting with him. Maybe it will still come but its obvious he is fighting it here.

Kane will be pumped with so many drugs during the playoffs, the Lindgren cocktail, we will see a much better version of him.

When he is pumped full of these drugs, he's gonna forget all about the hip and the frustration and we'll see how he plays then.

Kane's diet during the playoffs:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, they have to find a way to keep Tarasenko. He fits this team like a glove.

I also echo that I don’t love the Power Play the way it’s set up. I think it takes away everyone’s strengths. There’s nothing wrong with distributing the talent to both units and splitting their time more equally.
