Flyers reportedly thinking of retaining salary on Hayes to move him. This isn't going to happen, but who would you rather have if Flyers retained salary to make cap hits equal? Hayes at 30 with his 12-team NTC centering Kreider and Kane, or Trocheck at 29 and a full NMC?
Trochek hands down, its not even close for me, you win a cup with one you chase mediocrity with the other.

Harpur is a perfectly serviceable seventh defenseman. Who do you want instead? Brent Burns?

His biggest fault is that he doesn’t hold the puck. When it comes his way, he treats it like a hot potato. I’m always wary of defenseman who like to shovel their shit off to someone else.

But…that’s the basic seventh defenseman profile in 5he league.
Leafs 7th dman is Luke Schenn...I'd trade 12 Harpur's for Luke Schenn

Trouba kinda stinks at defense. I’ve been telling everyone that for a long time and no one thinks it’s true, but it is.
No. Trouba was terrible defensively early in the season when he was clearly injured.
He played through it and both him and K'andre's numbers suffered.

As someone else posted, since 1/1 their numbers have completely flipped.

The Flyers don't want him, so....
He's been hurt a lot after he was drafted. Development was hampered by injuries. I remember lots here being fans of him and ended up going to Philly as a late riser. A lot of us were hoping for him with the Miller pick.

I still think there's top 6 upside there under the right circumstances. I'm just not sure he has the two way game that he has a high enough floor to be a bottom six option.

Also rumblings Buffalo won't sign Ryan Johnson.

If the Rangers can sign O'Brien and Johnson, that would be an absolute coup.

Johnson would be a nice pickup. I saw a lot of BU this year. I'm not all that interested in O'Brien. A free prospect is nice and all but if it comes down to it I'd rather use a contract/roster slot on a high end AHL player than a prospect that doesn't have much upside. I'd consider the Flyers lucky they get a 2nd round compensation pick for him

And speaking of BU.. I'd much rather sign Matt Brown over O'Brien. And even then I'm not sure how Brown's game will translate to the pros. He's a good skater. Also, it speaks volumes that the 3 freshman Greene, Wilmer and Q. Hutson were among the top 6 in scoring for forwards on that team despite the fact that they primarily played a 3rd line role this year. Said a bunch of times in the draft thread but Jeremy Wilmer is someone I'd love to look for in the later rounds. Undrafted, size was a big issue making the jump to college. Still managed 32 points in 37 games. Tied for 2nd highest scoring forward on BU, top 15 in scoring for u20 players in the NCAA, in a very limited role. To me that's the sort of project you take late in the draft. Take a chance on the high skill level and hope he fills out. He's one of several overagers to keep an eye on for this year's draft

Why do the flyers get a 2nd? I thought (and I’m assuming I’m wrong here) they have to at least make an offer to the former first round pick and the player has to deny it. Maybe they did but it just sounds like he hasn’t impressed and there was no contract negotiations

Another thought:

The Red Wings look like they're going to have 5 picks in this upcoming draft all within the top 50. I'm going to wager that they're not going to keep all 5 and will look to deal one or two of the 2nd rounders or even the later of their 1st rounders for help now. No playoffs for them in seven years running now. The pressure is going to be on Stevie Y to get back in especially with their captain locked up. They'll look to make moves at the draft and this summer.

I don't see the Rangers trading Trouba this summer, but there may be a shock move (or two) that the Rangers may make this summer if they come up short of the Cup. I think they hesitate because Schneider hasn't been an NHL player since November. Still, it's something to think about, and the Wings will have cap space this summer.

The Rangers will need to move Goodrow to sign their RFA's.

Goodrow to Detroit for Detroit's own 2023 2nd rounder (no retention on NYR's end)

If the Rangers want to make a big move and think that Trouba's best days are behind him (FWIW, I think he's been fine since he's gotten over his injury), Detroit would be the only place I'd see him waive to.

Gustav Lindstrom. Anton Stralman lite. Get in on him before the secret gets out. Break out candidate written all over him.

Goodrow and Trouba to Detroit with no money retained for Lindstrom, NYI 2023 1st that Detroit owns, Detroit's own 2023 2nd.

Rangers clear $9 million of net cap space after paying Lindstrom 2 years, $1 million/season cap hit.

That's a BIG swing. It's possible, but I think it's more likely we see Goodrow traded and some tertiary depth added.

I agree with you here. I wouldn't trade Trouba...yet.

Panarin is the guy getting dealt if he has another bad to mediocre playoffs, IMO.

Goodrow to Detroit this summer is something I see as very likely.

Draft capital that would be fair value? Check.

Cap space? Check.

Roster construction need? Check.

Previous Stevie Y connection from Tampa? Check mate.
