If you want to get the most out of Kane and Panarin at this stage of their careers they should never ever be on the same line. Kane is a non-factor on the forecheck and in puck battles, and while Panarin is slightly better it's not his best attribute so once they lose the puck it's trouble. They need guys who can get the puck and give it to them. I think Gallant finally went with Kreider-Zibanejad-Kane and Panarin-Trocheck-Tarasenko during the 3rd period hopefully he sticks with it.
I thought the starting lineup last night was the way to go unless you want to start intermingling kids with the vets making a stronger top9, but we know Gallant wont go that route. ( I prefer to keep Kreider and Zibs separated ) But the top6 you mentioned is what we all assumed would be the lines when we acquired Kane. Consider it 1A or 1B.

The team is going through the motions. They clinched. These games now mean little. It will take a lot of losses/embarrassment for them to snap out of it. It happened to Tampa recently. We're playing not to get hurt instead of playing to win. Re-arranging the top6 will not do anything.

The biggest aspect moving forward is getting the Powerplay on line. The overload PP is dumb and should have been scrapped already. Put Mika in the Bumper and go back to the 1-3-1.

Honestly I think they just promote Jones and a lot of stuff falls into place, going forward.

I see no reason he's not in the plans. They want baseline strength and d zone detail and when he's got that, he's got a top 6 job imo.

So to sum up what I've missed:

-People want to bring Brendan Lemieux back? He's not a good player, was a terrible fit in the locker room, and has low emotional intelligence. Him and DeAngelo were tight. Not gonna happen.

-Harpur is fine for what he is. An adequate third pair DMan. When they went for Kane that was it in terms of cap space. He'll be the 6-7 next year.

Based on what? From all reports the players loved him.

He caused drama with management regarding his role and scratches at least three months prior to the LA trade that was reported on. He was also....philosophically different with a lot of the Rangers leadership. That could've caused issues similar to DeAngelo.

When he came back last year and tried to commit assault on Lindgren, there was a lot of heat and there seemed to be genuine anger and screaming from the players to him and vice versa.

Can't do anything unless they put Lindgren on LTIR, which is where he should have been since the injury

I wasn't the one who made the point but I understand the reasoning behind it. I'm not sure how realistic it was, but we're stuck at this point. The NHL is a joke of a league with this salary cap that is stuck at 2005 levels. We're basically locked into 3rd, but we can't even give someone a night off without playing short a man. It's just a laughable clown show league.

Blame the NHL and the NHLPA - they agreed to it.

I'm all for a luxury tax but nobody is making these teams spend to the cap with zero room for error.

But we need Harpur because he can handle big strong forwards like Jordan Greenway. Oh, wait…

Keep Kane off this f***ing team please. We dont need him and his panarin like bullshit. I dont care that hes playing on one hip or that he only wants to play for us and will sign for dirt cheap. Hes addition by subtraction with his play.
I would love it if he even played remotely as hard as Panarin does.

Lindgren missing his 6th straight game tomorrow, and 17th of his last 18th overall, with the Rangers not using LTIR was such a Rongos move.
There's more to this story than meets the eye. The league could have sent them a message not to try anything if they want the Kane trade to go down for peanuts.

We will never know.

This is likely what happened. Figures that Tampa can be a billion over the cap but as soon as it's the Rangers trying something, they get shutdown when a player is ACTUALLY injured.

They let the Rangers call up Brod after playing short a man in Boston. Lindgren clearly suffered a legit injury, they would have let them place him on LTIR.

nothing they did was against the rules though. they hurt themselves for like two weeks to fit Kane. putting an actually injured player on LTIR and trading for a replacement is also perfectly within the rules.

Justin Braun @ 50%
Nick Holden @ 50%

or give Jones and Robertson a look. Maybe put Lindgren on LTIR? It's not hindsight. There was no reason to play Lindgren. LTIR Lindgren opens up many more capabilities. but we're smarter than that.

Harpur is not a NHL defenseman and is the weakest link. 'If you're complaining about 7D, we're doing good' Yeah, until that 7D costs you a series. He's like a deer in headlights against teams like Carolina and the Devils. The two teams we are probably facing in the first two rounds.

I refuse to believe any rational person thinks Jones or Robertson are worse than Harpur. Sure, 7D will have flaws.. but provide something. He provides nothing and is a detriment all around.
Sadly Hajek is even an upgrade.

He's not...stop reading that garbage.

“If Chris Drury sees an area he feels the team needs a big upgrade in, maybe he moves one of them. The only one that could even remotely make sense is Lafrenière if you feel you can spend the money he’ll likely get on his next contract beyond his upcoming one elsewhere. Trading Chytil leaves the Rangers poorer skill-wise at 3C and trading Miller seems like madness.”

Staple is a moron and legit anyone can see this..

Laf doesnt make enough money in order to be shipped out for a legit upgrade RIGHT NOW. Laf is 21yo everyone needs to calm down and let him grow and mature. Chytl just got resigned so not sure wtf staple is saying and trading a budding defensive star in Miller is just plain old stupidity.

Seriously why do you read this garbage?

None of these sites do any due deligence into the team when writing about any team they dont know about.

“If.” “Maybe.” Then the writer’s opinion. That is not a rumor.

This is a false premise. It's a readers mailbag. A reader sets parameters. "If one of the RFAs are moved this offseason, who?" It's a piece that was meant to generate clicks. braindead sensationalism.

Laffy is about as untouchable on this team as it gets.

I mean I think laf could be moved for an insane offering, and fox would be more untouchable than laf.
But yeah staple is just driving clicks.
