If you think for one second, that we would not be parting with at least seven pieces, three of which would be the entire kid line and that in addition to Adam Fox, and this would just be for starters, you are living in fantasy land. Please reference the Eric Lindros trade.
Just to get the other G.M. to pick up the phone Drury would start my having to minus one off the Kid Line and Substitute one of Lindgren, Miller or Schneider then add Shesterkin.
I believe Fox has a NMC.
…and I know this is sacrilege, but I would still make that trade

Some teams believe there could be a deal to be made with the salary cap without touching escrow. $2M cap increase.

Does the NHL want to do that? The players won’t change the escrow for a higher cap without paying off their balance. $100m-$150m. The NHL wants more escrow for a cap increase without the players paying off their debt.

The owners should want a small cap increase this season if only so that they don't have a 12m cap increase in 2024-2025.

If the players pay back their amount by 2 weeks into the season, the owners would actually be in "debt" to the players because the split would be uneven. Theres no make whole provision on the players side, only the owners.

I was just on Twitter and there's a subset of people that think Harpur is good, is there some reason for this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Harpur is slow, can't pass the puck, or even handle it.
The only thing he can do is move a body from out in front of the net.

Harpur is an 7/8th defensemen.

I like Harpur for what he is (a regular season #7) but he was an unmitigated disaster yesterday. Need Lindgren healthy for Game 1, and why cant we give Jones a couple games? Seems counterproductive.

Hes an above average 4th liner. You guys act like we need to fill the team with top 6 talent/thats realistic. There are roles on teams
Def disagree on this. He's an AHL guy/13F(if his team likes him) at best. Goodrow, Motte & Vesey are above average 4th liners. Lepew plays no defense, barely brings any offense. All he does is make people want to hit him. He think he's a top 9 forward, but there's a reason why he's in and out of the lineup in LA, and traded out of LA for a guy who has only played 6 games in LA.

I still believe they pay back escrow this season.

There should be a deal in place to allow a nice linear progression in the cap instead of, like you said, raising up $10M in one go. If that's 3.5-5M increments, needs to be determined.

If they want to add an amendment to the cap/CBA that the roster on the ice needs to be cap compliant, ( essentially not counting the 13F, 7D ) that would help as well.

People on twitter aren't a good metric for the fanbase. Or, really, any generalizable proposition.

I was ridiculed for saying we would regret not upgrading Harpur...

He's bad at nearly everything. Positioning. Puck skills. First step. IQ.

He's tall. I get it... It helps when you're bigger for board and crease battles. He still sucks though.

But we did. Mikkola is a legit upgrade.

We did upgrade Harpur with Mikkola.

I do not know why this keeps being brought up.

I'm not talking about 3LD. I'm talking about Harpur, the 7D. The guy that has to step in if someone goes down. Who steps in if a RHD gets hurt?

He's the weakest link on the roster. It's why I wanted him upgraded. It's not as if it was some impossible task.

Can you give me a list of better 7th d on an nhl roster?
And I’m not talking about prospects who are close but not 100% ready.
Harpur is a 7th D. He has lots of flaws, he’s good at one thing, it just happens to be what the coach wants for his 7th D.

He's got 21K in "extra" cap space to work with, so, he needs to find a better 7D that costs 771K or less which would leave us with zero cap space.

Had we done that at the deadline, it would've been even less and our cap roster shenanigans would've been even worse.

Lindgren should have been on LTIR. Nobody on the beat has been able to answer why that move didn't happen. Larry Brooks was speculating that with the whole Patrick Kane cap debacle, the league would not have allowed the Rangers to LTIR Lindgren for some bs reason.

Even then, they could have just waived Harpur to bring in the upgrade or even included him in the trade.

Justin Braun @ 50%
Nick Holden @ 50%

or give Jones and Robertson a look. Maybe put Lindgren on LTIR? It's not hindsight. There was no reason to play Lindgren. LTIR Lindgren opens up many more capabilities. but we're smarter than that.

Harpur is not a NHL defenseman and is the weakest link. 'If you're complaining about 7D, we're doing good' Yeah, until that 7D costs you a series. He's like a deer in headlights against teams like Carolina and the Devils. The two teams we are probably facing in the first two rounds.

I refuse to believe any rational person thinks Jones or Robertson are worse than Harpur. Sure, 7D will have flaws.. but provide something. He provides nothing and is a detriment all around.

More draft picks down the drain

Harpur actually has a better CF% than Mikkola (and, no, I'm not saying Harpur is better than Mikkola) does. Better than Braun too. Jones and Robertson will still be options when it matters (the playoffs) should it come to that though it's big, and unfair, ask.

I'd rather not have Jones/Robertson riding the pine instead of trying to make the playoffs in Hartford. Granted, with the Lindgren injury being extended further muddies up those waters a bit.

But, again, around here we're always seemingly focused on the least common denominator (Leshitshow, Reaves, Harpur, etc...) instead of what's really going to matter more (a different playoff Panarin, team turnovers, east-west passing, etc...)
