yes, but they dont need 4-5 players to get tougher to play against. They can add like Goodrown, Mcginn, Reaves in a trade, Kassian in a trade, and get like 2 of them, Kreider moves down to the 3rd line and they're already tougher. You want your top 6 to be skilled more than tough. Also, guys like Lafraniere, Kakko will learn that in time.

Kreider is not tough. He’s a streaky semi-power forward without much of a shot, Some mentioned make the Rangers better. Reaves stinks. This team cannot NOT add only 2 or 3 players and go beat these physical teams. Look at them!!!

Is it safe to say that all UFA deals of significance happen after the expansion draft?

Gauthier was actually physical last year. On the boards he was routinely winning board battles. He's never going to be laying guys out but on a shift-by-shift basis he is a load to handle and he consistently wins battles. That's EXACTLY what you want from a bottom-6 player.

Would it be great if he was more physical on top of that? Sure. But we tried that with Lemieux. Gauthier has legitimate 20g potential at the NHL level.
Woah, woah, woah… don’t say this to a certain faction of posters here that claim he wasn’t physical and that his hit totals were misleading…that the NHL is overly generous with tallying hits, so he really wasn’t that physical… even though he averaged about 2-3 hits per game in just 6-8 minutes of ice time…

buch
chytil
jones
georgiev
1st

yes it is five assets but it gets the deal done imo

minn is the biggest target sleeper right now for jack and that is where i see him ending up unless nyr makes an aggressive play for him now, but we dont even know if they are still interested since the regime change.

That is way too much. I believe the earlier reports of insiders saying a deal around a strong vet, a good young prospect and a 1st is realistic.

The most I'd pay for Eichel, given all the considerations cap hit/injury etc, is

Strome/Buch
Lundqvist/Schneider
1st

If they insist on adding Georgiev the 1st becomes a 2021 2nd

But I would stay clear of Eichel for cap reasons and overall team balance. Probably the only thing that would change my mind is if the team has concluded Zib's future with the team is uncertain in for whatever reason.

Continuing my thought, normally I would edit but in case someone is responding:

If Gorton trades Strome for prospects/picks and Buch for prospects/picks, replaces him with Chytil and signs Danault.

Panarin-Chytil-Kravtsov
Lafreniere-Zibanejad-Kaako
Kreider-Danault-Gauthier
Barron-Rooney-Goodrow

Sign Oleksiak @ $3m per for 3 years, no NTC

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Oleksiak-Lundqvist
Bitetto

Drury you mean!

that D is ideal

I just doubt Buch goes unlike some. Maybe eventually but not this year

I always find it amusing when people want no part of elite players because of...reasons.

He's too expensive...well no shit..he's elite.
He's got an injury concern. Well yeah..that's why he's cheap right now.

He's a 24year old franchise center signed for 5 years at a known number that can be had for pennies on the dollar. He's right handed which makes him an ideal for for a right handed left winger named panarin. He can pass or shoot and dominates possession.

Go. Get. Me. EICHEL

I will say that I'm not in love with trading for Eichel, signing Zibanejad long term, or signing Strome long term. None of those look appealing to me.

This. I have no desire to bring Eichel in here. You sell high on Strome and Buchnevich. Signing Zibanejad long term concerns me; if the right offer comes along, I would move him.

For everyone who is scared of Eichel's injury, Friedman today on a radio show/podcast mentioned how Peyton Manning had a similar neck injury and opted for the surgery Jack wants. He later went on to win a super bowl a few years later so perhaps its not all doom and gloom regarding his injury.

article link: Peyton Manning had a neck surgery BEFORE winning 2nd Super Bowl

He also has a ridiculously precipitous drop off pretty soon after. Eichel scares the hell out of me regardless of acquisition cost.

Individuals do not win championships, teams do. Toronto, Edmonton, with elite star players, fell flat on their faces this year because they didn't have a real team. In this flat cap world, why make the same mistake they have? Colorado, with their elite stars, are on the brink.

The very reason Buffalo are looking to move on from Eichel is precisely because he takes up too much oxygen compared to what he delivers for their TEAM.

The more I think if it

sign Danault and Cizikas
Trade Strome for picks or a LD vet

Laf, Zib, Buch
Panarin , Chytil , Kravtsov
Kreider , Danault , Kakko
Rooney , Cizikas , Blackwell
Gauthier

I hate to say it but I think any deal has to include Chytil. Plus one of the D prospects, and as I said before Buffalo has a bigger need at RD so Schneider/Nils, 15th overall obviously. I think we could see Geo thrown in there, he's still pretty damn young and while he struggled a bit last season should have value.

Chytil
Schneider/Lundkvist
Georgiev
1st

Perhaps another piece.

Pass

that argument falls flat, Sidney Crosby and the pens. Kucherov/ point/ vasy and the lightning.
Kane and the hawks.
You win with elite talent on cheap deals. It’s not about “teams” it’s about our performing the cap.

I don't know why Larry Brooks looks at the five remaining teams in the playoffs and decides the one we should mold ourselves after is the Islanders.

I'm not a 'physicality doesn't matter' person but seriously?
It's Larry, he's a hack's hack who hates the Rangers. Lou runs the Islanders, ergo, they can do no wrong in Larry's eyes.

Other than cost and risk of being a LTIR guy, Eichel doesn't really help us anywhere we really need it.

Unless we turn around and trade Zibanejad, I don't think adding him makes a whole lot of sense. It's not just the neck with Eichel either, he's got a pretty lengthy history and had 4 or 5 things that were ailing him this season. You can't win with just elite talent. Tampa tired that 2 years ago and failed miserably. It wasn't until they augmented their talent with some diversity that they got over the hump.

He also has a ridiculously precipitous drop off pretty soon after. Eichel scares the hell out of me regardless of acquisition cost.

Yeah people fail to mention that Manning basically had no arm strength at all after he got his neck operated on and was carried by his defense for super bowl #2.

He was also much older, but its not like he came back and was the same guy.

The Islanders are winning more because of the commitment they've made to play a certain way 100% of the time than they are because of their personnel.

The worst outcome of the Islanders making it this far will be the avalanche of articles that suggest the Rangers emulate them.

I have no problem with getting Eichel if he is indeed cheap
