Makes you wonder of the return would be similar to what Philly got for Lindros.

What would be the comparable here for the Rangers?

Filip Chytil
Pavel Buchnevich
Matthew Robertson/Zac Jones
3rd round pick

i don't like what i read about docs opting for a conservative approach and never performing the neck surgery on a hockey player. That's as risky as the historic trade for Lindros.

Good call but too much risk IMO. I'd send that package elsewhere

Is it imperative the Rangers look for the most expensive cap hit and long term options to solve roster issues?

Sign Smith for a year or two to a contract where most of the cap hit can be buried. There is a vet D who plays with some grit, who is cheap and short term. Rangers have a boat load of defender prospects, it will solve itself with a little patience.

How about Oleksiak? Will Dallas protect him and can the Rangers swing a trade with Seattle if Oleksiak isn't protected and Seattle selects him?

This whole Robert Saleh infatuation with the Jets perturbs me...and I'm a freakin' Giants fan. The Islanders are a New York team like the Buffalo Sabres are a New York team.

TIL NY is only the city. Guess I live in a void.

Brendl's production went down each year after his draft year. Chytil's has gone up each year since his draft year. No comparison. If we still had him, Lias would be the Brendl equivalent. Also, how the hell is Brendl 40 years old? Time is flying.
Buchnevich is a better player than Hlavac as well.
Jonsson was a meh 25-ish year old depth D drafted in the 11th round. We have no comparable.

Okay, let's fix it then.

- Brett Howden because his production is going down each year
- Colin Blackwell as the Hlavac comparable
- Anthony Bitetto as the equivalent of Jonsson

Deal

Don’t be so sure
Why? What makes you think they would be so immovable in year 2 or year 3 of their contracts, should a younger kid push them out? How much do you really think they are getting AAV wise? I have Oleksiak in the $2.5-$3 range. Martinez probably not far off from that. That’s not movable?

Same thoughts here. But the Eichel/Lindros is interesting.

Much closer. Will suck to lose Blackwell, though, haha. Seriously though, Philly really was taking a gamble on that deal. If they were able to "fix" Brendl, they could have potentially won that trade, but there wasn't really anything else with high end potential in that package. For Philly, it was 1 part hoping they could spark Brendl and 1 part being fed up with dealing with Lindros's dad-agent, if I'm remembering right.

Yeah, and that's why I suggested Chytil. The potential is there, even though it hasn't surfaced yet for Chytil. They're going to want some potential coming back and I'd assume at least 1 player with some salary attached like Buchnevich. It saves us the cap hit of close to 6m he will probably get.

The defenseman could be anyone really. Robertson, Miller or Jones make sense since their right side already has Miller, Jokiharju and Ristolainen. They need someone on the left to slot in behind Dahlin.

Chytil isn't a reclamation project though. He's upped his game every season, and is poised to break out. Brendl had higher draft cache, but hadn't even played an NHL game at that point (which was seen as a huge disappointment for a player who, at that point, was our highest draft pick ever). I don't think we really have anyone like that on the current roster.

So Eichel doesnt want to be there. Now the Sabres want to move on from him. Plus the injury issues. Will be a very interesting deal to see happen.
