did I miss something ? Kreider doesn’t suck and as a 3rd line LW, PP1 guy he’s ideal
With Lafreniere maturing, hes going to replace CK on PP1 as soon as this season.

He has a ways to go before he reaches that level . If he has a decent season15-20 goals and 25 -30 assists that will be good for him considering we have some offensive pieces taking key ice time ahead of him. With Lafreniere maturing, hes going to replace CK on PP1 as soon as this season.
Potentially a 50% raise for Mika with a big season . Somebody will pay him if not the Rangers . I doubt he takes lesser amount in NY when it can be got elsewhere unless he really is in love with the NY lifestyle . 5 years term and more money might keep him here versus 7 years at lesser money elsewhere ....lot's of options for both sides . It will be a very interesting scenario over the Winter as he holds the bargaining chips because of his NTC . We might end up with nothing to show for him if he plays it out and then walks away . That's not a nice option for us but it is always in play. The longer the cap ceiling remains flat the more it will deflate salaries. Older, declining vets are going to start playing for peanuts or not at all unless they decide to play in Europe. I don’t see Mika scoring the kind of contract next year that he would have a couple years ago if he had been a UFA then. He’ll still get more (at least if he has a good season) because he’s kind of underpaid.
It’s a good time to be a young player on an ELC or second contract. Seattle coming in this year though does inject a potential 80 million into the market place.
1. Acquire a left hand defenseman with some bite and a short contract. Matthias Ekholm would be perfect, Mark Giordano could be a nice alternative.
2. A center who can win face offs and bring some bite. Barclay Goodrow please.
3. At least one winger with some sandpaper. Heavyweight standing not a necessity but would be nice. There could be more than one addition.
4. Monetize players on ELCs at the end of their contract (e.g. Hajek, Howden) who do not figure in future plans.

It's the move that in all likelihood will make or break the rebuild. Get the center formula right and there is enough talent on the wings and D to be a dominant team for a 5-7 year stretch. Get it wrong and we're a middling team always chasing a center wasting prime years.our lack of centers really hurts, and I don’t feel confident we’ll make a good move regarding that.

I’d have Laf replace Strome
I understand why everyone wants a veteran LD, but considering Jones and robertson are both going to make a big push for the team I feel like that’s not quite as likely. For the role we need, I am much more inclined to sign Oleksiak than trade for either Ekholm or Giordano. The assets are better used elsewhere.
You and everyone else. Except for the people who died on the Quinn hill.I’d have Laf replace Strome

Kreider you do not take off PP1. He is terrific in front of the net and nobody else replaces that on the team. The guy you replace on PP1 is...
Any number of players should replace Strome on PP1. Buchnevich, Kakko, Lafreniere - all good choices.
You do not stunt the growth of the future of this franchise by the likes of Chris Kreider
I agree with you, but it needs to be the right guy and the right role you are taking out. I wouldn't have Chris Kreider block Lafreniere at even strength. I hope Laf slots up next year, and Kreider down. It's just Kreider fills a specific role on PP1 and he does it well. I'd take out Strome first

Alec Martinez, pending UFA
With all the star power in Vegas (and we mean on the Golden Knights, not in the casinos) it’s been easy to forget that two-time Stanley Cup champion Alec Martinez is even on the roster let alone how important he’s been to this team. The 33-year-old has been a rock and helped solidify the blue line corps especially as Alex Pietrangelo took some time to adjust to his new surroundings after signing with Vegas last off-season. In fact, Martinez has settled in as a nice partner to Pietrangelo on the team’s number one defensive pairing. “He’s been invaluable on the ice and a big leader in the room,” said one source familiar with the dynamics in Vegas. “Vegas needs him back and I think the feeling is mutual.” But can they make it work? Between Pietrangelo and Shea Theodore, the Golden Knights are committed to $14 million in cap space for their top two defenders. Martinez is a bargain at $4 million but even if he’d like to re-up with the Golden Knights how much is too much? Two years at $5 million probably isn’t overpaying but it may be too much for Vegas. No doubt rival GMs will be watching how this plays out and hope Martinez hits the open market.
I think it is very likely. This team needs some vet leadership on the backend. I don't think it's going to be someone like Ekholm though. He would fit well, but he has 1 year left on his contract and will cost significant assets to acquire. If we are trading for him, it isn't just for 1 year, and it doesn't make sense to sign him long term at age 32.
If Vegas can't afford to re-sign Martinez, I'd see if he wants to sign here.

2 years @ 5 mil and no assets given up? Yes please.
My issue with Martinez is that his fancy stats have been ass for almost his entire career. This year was better but I'm not sure he's who I want as a vet.
People have mentioned Nick Holden as an option of Vegas wants to jettison some cap. He's a good bottom-pairing d-man and has 1 year left on as reasonable deal.

That’s the way to go in my mind. Laf has an amazing wrist shot so he is a threat to score from there which adds another dynamic.I’d have Laf replace Strome
He’s top three in the league at that and will be for the foreseeable future, which is one of the reasons why I’m less catastrophic about his contract than others.Don't see it. Kreider is still absolutely lethal in front of the net including effective screens. Lafreniere shouldn't be playing that role.
