Did Mika Fox & Kreider disappear late in the Pittsburgh series or against Carolina. The Rangers shouldnt be apologizing for having Igor. You think Tampa has 2 Cups (soon to be 3) without Vasilevsky?
We clearly caught a huge break in that first series with Pitt having Crosby out. If Crosby never gets hurt theres no way we win that series, that line was steamrolling us. Easily the best line we saw all playoffs.

Carolina has a similar issue in that their stars don't show up.

Guess what happens when it mattered:

Kucherov>>>Panarin
Stamkos >>Zibanejad
Palat >>> Kreider
Cirelli >>> Copp

Grit and intensity didn't win Tampa that series.

Defense was actually pretty even, other than Trouba who was easily the worst dman the entire series between either team.

Igor overall was probably better than Vas.

This is a team that went to the ECF back to back and gave Tampa a harder time than we did. Rough year, they’ll be back in the playoffs next season
Most of that was Trotz who they mistakenly fired. That Islander team is middle of the road talentwise in the East.

Had the Rangers won game 3 like they should have before they imploded in the 3rd period, they beat Tampa. Even Tampa with all their experience was going to have a major task in trying to win 4 straight at that point.

I don't think we imposed our will. I think we have a resilient group....

Maybe fatigue played a role but we have key guys that just play too 'respectful' or as other would call it, 'soft'. Kreider should be steamrolling everyone and anyone. Set the tone.
Kreider was neutered earlier in his career by the goalie collisions and a few boarding calls. He rarely hits anyone hard anymore.

Much more worried about the Devils than I am about the Islanders.
They have elite young talent.

When it mattered, the Rangers outplayed Carolina & Pittsburgh, I dont care who was playing for them or what goalie was in net. No one would feel bad for the Rangers if we were missing Igor or Mika.

And im not arguing that Tampa's top guys didnt outplay ours because they most certainly did. My point is that beating a team that's now won 11 straight playoff series is another beast entirely. And while im disappointed they lost and the run is over, i can live with the fact that we were gassed and lost to a more superior and experienced team. Our time will come.

Dont be. They cant defend or have a goalie who can stop the puck. Also not nearly enough size and grit to contend for anything right now.

I remember he was ejected for a similar hit on Brodin in a game against the Wild where we had a crazy 3rd period comeback. Kreider's speed and strength combo was too much and its clear someone told him he had to reel it in

What about the one vs the Bruins vs Soderberg

Or the one vs the Devils

Are we really talking about the Devils and Islanders as playoff teams in June?

Stop.

I'll believe it when I see it with the Devils. Goaltending and team defense are still major issues for them. Exciting offense but that's not everything. They were playing pond hockey all year and got blown out lots.

The Islanders are going to be borderline next year. It's going to come down to them or the old ass Caps next year. Rangers, Canes, and Pens come out of the Metro next year I think. The Atlantic may have 5 teams come out. Florida, Tampa, Toronto, and wildcards in Buffalo, Montreal (I think they'll be back next season), and Ottawa.

I agree with you from a business perspective but honestly seeing this team make the conference finals and putting up an incredible 2 games vs Tampa made giving up that pick worth it to me. I have no prob not having the pick.

Certainly will be an exciting 5 years ahead!

Moving picks today makes our harder to be cap compliant tomorrow

We've talked about the Rangers and Kings being interesting trade partners, especially when it comes to their depth of young centers and the Rangers having some young defenders that could help them.

Well, Jaret Anderson-Dolan and Gabe Vilardi will now require waivers to be sent to the minors. Danault and Kopitar at their top 2 centers. Byfield could shift to wing if they want to do that. On top of that, they still have Turcotte, Madden, Thomas, and Kupari that are centers.

Feel like this is a time where a move could happen where one of these guys could be acquired. The Kings wouldn't want to lose an asset to waivers, and on top of that, they wouldn't want to demote a player that should have made the team. Something is going to have to budge with that team, unless they are making a big splash deal and moving multiple pieces out. Could be the perfect time to make this happen.

Lots of awful takes in here

Devils are not a playoff team anytime soon. That’s a terrible country club core they already have with a bunch of non-leaders. The Hughes bros and Dougie Hamilton are not guys you want leading a team. Then they also randomly slapped the C on Hischier when he was like 19 years old

If NYR want a lengthy window, they'll have to go shopping for UDFAs and other bargains later on.

If they want a short window, well, Shesty's deal is up in 3 seasons. I doubt that's the plan though.

NYR's last 'window' ran from 2012 to 2016 and a half. It was complicated by the fact that NYR had suffered a lot of mediocre bordering on poor teams from 2008 to 2011 that sometimes happened to make the playoffs, by had a lot of dead weight on the roster.

What 2 years ago?

Half of their roster basically got really old overnight this year and have zero farm to speak of. I don't know how they're making these big additions some have hinted at, they literally have next to nothing of any value to move.

Even if they played at the same clip that they did in their "great 2nd half" they would have still missed the playoffs. It's only going to get worse for them next year.

I'd bet on Buffalo taking the playoff spot that is vacated by Boston next year. The rest of the teams likely remain the same.
Literally last season they took Tampa to 7 games

Trade Nemeth to Ottawa with a mid round pick, take back final year of Del Zotto, bury MDZ in Hartford, and eat the 875,000 dead cap hit for the year.

Lessens the pick you have to give up with Nemeth, and most importantly leaves you with the 2.5 savings in that awful third year of Nemeth’s contract next summer.
