The Jack Adams finalist scratched Kakko over a gimpy Strome. He knew Strome was hurt. He admitted Strome was hurt. He plays him. The Rangers are basically playing with 10 forwards because Strome is hurt and Hunt shouldn't be playing the ECF. Now we are seeing why Gallant has bounced from team in team. His Florida and Vegas teams had some good seasons but he was fired in midseason twice.
I wonder if Gallant was pleased with how Strome looked given that he was given a green light to play by the docs. It was Gallant that pulled Strome from the game, not Strome himself or the docs.
I think you must give a coach some leeway on these type of calls. You weight a lot of pros and cons against each other with the team in mind and how we have matched up against the opponents. The first two games we got the upper hand by jumping on Tampa out of the gate and forcing them out of the comfort zone. The following three games we are without energy and play into their trap while they kill us on the counter attack.
Gallant put in two fresh energy players. Gallant have had at least minor issues with Kakko all year.
As to Kakko, his rookie year here he got a little PP time and did perfectly OK. His second year, Quinn just had no room for him. We were out of the POs early but Blackwell still had to play and everyone else. We know that Kakko can play on the PP, while it of course is an ability that tackles off unless you get to practice it. Kakko playing on the PP will give him more confidence, slow the game down and so forth. Kakko must also become better 5 on 5. A lot of that will come from developing more physically, he is still really young.
I think Gallant want Kakko to play a more instinctive game. Have Kakko had issues with Gallant's use of him?
Quinn wasting the rebuilding years not playing the kids was not good, and its something we are paying for. Thank god for Dolan.
