I think the point is, the big ticket rental that costs a 1st+ is almost never a difference maker in the long run for a team that wins it all. Those teams already have teams that are capable of winning prior to that piece coming in. It's almost always the role playing, lower cost moves that end up making the difference.

What? The whole problem with this team all year is being top heavy and having 4 or 5 guys that score and the bottom 6 was basically useless for long stretches. 2C will be dealt with in the off season. Guys like Mckegg and Gauthier should have never been playing and Hunt is a bottom 6 guy, not a 2nd liner. The addition of Vatrano and eventually Kakko will give the team more forward depth that is needed in the playoffs. If they can get 1 more middle 6 forward at the TDL that would be ideal.

Right now the Rangers have enough options on the 3rd and 4th lines and that will only be reinforced when Kakko and Rooney come back. They need another scorer/play-driver to enhance the top two lines which have been good relative to the rest of the team but don't compare to other top lines. If your bottom two lines are Hunt-Chytil-Vatrano/Kakko and Goodrow-Rooney-Brodzinski/Gauthier/Reaves that's good enough. But we need more pop on the top two lines. Our leading scorer at 5v5 are Strome and Panarin at 2.23 which is 84th in the NHL. Not good enough.

Things may be changing now but for most of this year this team has been known as top heavy and the bottom 6 a collective black hole with 2-3 AHL type players getting lots of playing time. They could use another top 6 guy but the cost may be prohibitive. I think either Vatrano or Kakko are the 2RW. They are likely to roll with Kreider-Mika-Laf and Panarin-Strome-Vatrano/Kakko which is fine unless they pull off something big at the deadline.

Not really much I'd want on that list. Copp and or Paul fit the Drury 'type'
I know +/- isn't the be all end all but how has Kessel been a negative player his whole career? He was a -19 on the 18-19 Penguins at a point per game. Mind boggling.

because the leafs and coyotes have been dogshit while hes been with them. malkin was a -25 that same year. odd season for them.

Chandler Stephenson would be a f***ing outstanding addition. He's EASILY a 2C. He is a faster Strome. He doesn't shoot, but he can skate and does everything else.
If Vegas is trading him, sign me up. Make it happen. I'd give a 1st+ for him. There is very little that I'd have off the table.
1st + Nils would be my offer. He's on one of the most team friendly deals out there. His contract, style of play, and production is exactly what they need. I'd move a 1st + Chytil for him. He's that good and exactly what the team needs.
