how much would kessel cost as a rental? would help solve 2nd/3rd line RW spot. would also help the 2nd PP unit as the RHS. a lot of ppl want "depth" but i feel we have a lot of these "depth" players now and would be better off with someone who can score if mika/panarin slump.

I think Jarnkrok is the best target for this team.

If we truly go all in, which I think is more of a possibility than many here think, these would be my moves:

NYR: 2022 1st, Vitali Kravtsov
SJS: Tomas Hertl

NYR: Will Cuylle, 2023 3rd
SEA: Calle Jarnkrok

Kreider - Zibanejad - Kakko
Panarin - Strome - Chytil
Lafeniere - Hertl - Jarnkrok
Goodrow - Rooney - Reaves
Barron/Hunt/Gauthier

Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Trouba
Jones - Schneider
Nemeth/Lundkvist

Shesterkin
Georgiev

If Igor stands on his head, that roster can make some noise.

We are not trading Cuylle for 3rd liner Calle Jarnkrok

Probably not a lot to be honest, he's got an 8 team trade list which also impacts his value. But I'm not sure he's a player the Rangers covet.

The NYR are pretty objectively being carried by goaltending and special teams. Their 5v5 play is near the bottom of the entire NHL.

Goaltending = we've seen that movie before. Special teams become less relevant in the POs due to fewer penalties being called.

Not surprising at all people are skeptical of this team.
I'm not sure it's true that there are fewer penalties in the playoffs. But you are right otherwise.

There are flashes, but it is a legit concern.

In the back of my mind I worry we’re witnessing our version of the 13-14 Avs riding an unsustainable PDO wave.

What would it take to pry Buchnevich out of St. Louis?

i think it can be looked at 2 ways. first, which everyone will agree, we are screwed without Igor. second, its really hard to judge our ability to compete with the top teams when the way the schedule has played out almost half those games have been without igor. therefore there is alot TBD in the games against those teams the rest of the way
We’ll see soon enough. Two upcoming games this week will be fun to watch. Hoping they’re on espn plus.

There's a shortage of good rental options this season which means the cost is gonna be sky high.

Exactly. Everyone balked at the costs I just mentioned, but the price will be high for the top pieces. If we have that mindset, the overpayment will be necessary. I wouldn’t make the Hertl trade I suggested because I think this team should be thinking long term.
