We shouldn't be all in this year, there's too much of a gap between Florida, Tampa, Vegas, etc and us to think we have a snowballs chance in hell of winning the cup even if you add a piece or two.

I think it would be foolish to let all of our cap space go unused & not add a few rentals. Not at the cost of our prized assets, but for a 2nd here or a 3rd there, I have no issue with that. Even our first rounder, which should be late in the 22 draft, wouldn't bother me for the right player. Pushing our chips all in at this time would be a mistake, however.

Another stat someone throws out there without truly looking behind the numbers. Where we have struggled is against the top teams in the West. Specifically Vegas, Colorado and Calgary. You back out those losses and we are 8-4-1. Big difference right? Point is we can compete with the East and make a run in the playoffs. I really dislike when people throw out these stats without knowing what they are talking about.
Lighten up jerk. The numbers are right. You make of them what you will. But if you attack people like you just did, I will eat you for breakfast and spit out the chewy parts in a volcano

If the team can get Chytil going at RW, that slides Goodrow to 3C. Lafreniere on the left, go find a good 3RW. Gauthier + for that player.

I’m not interested in paying prime assets for anyone who will likely be around for a month and a half. Not yet. The team isn’t there yet.

Im still keenly interested in Lehkonen and Jarnkrok.

Jarnkrok specifically because he plays all 3 forward spots and could conceivably be a nice 3rd piece on the Panarin line if needed. Or if juggling is needed he could be the 3C with Goodrow moving up. It’s gives the team options.

Lehkonen is the type of player this team could use for the next 3-4 years though. Plays both wings. Solid 2-way winger. Plays an underrated gritty game. PKer.

This guy gets it.....

1-2 mercenary add and see if Barron/Chytil/Schneider can find a home in their new positions for the rest of the year and Stabilize the lines a bit.

then in the offseason, cut Strome loose, Trade Geo, trade Nemeth, and possibly Chytil as well, and go big game hunting for a long term young 2C
That can play between LaF and kakko on a 2nd line getting top 6 minutes/responsibilities

I think the Rangers have plenty of grit, 2 way bottom 6 types. What they need is a goal scoring top 6 forward IMO.

Rangers are something like 6 - 10 - 1 against current teams in playoff position. What does it mean, WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

I def think teams like Tampa/Vegas/Fla/ cal etc are a little bit more complete/deeper then the rangers are currently.
But with 1-2 good adds, I really doubt there’s anyone that blows the doors off this team in a 7 game series.
They have been playing 1 goal/ never give up hockey since the first week of the season. Whether the team is good or bad, we’re in pretty much every game.
The Colorado game that was a blowout had a tired beat up team with Huska in net, and even then, the wheels didn’t fall off until the 2nd period.
I’m not advocating going all in like 94 and killing the farm for 4-5 major adds. But to think that this team can’t compete, even win ( with superior goaltending) in the playoffs is wrong.
When it’s you’re year, it’s you’re year.
The playoffs take a good amount of luck/fortitude. The best team doesn’t always win or advance. We’ve see that too many times.
The rangers being in all of those close games, and winning them this year and everything else that has transpired over the season has got to count for something.

One of Chytil or Laf has to stay in the top six to make that third line more playoff ready. I'm all for moving Goat+ for a veteran role player. I just really hope they don't make the mistake of putting Goodrow in the top six. He needs to be on that third line.

I think we need one of each. Sure we have enough gritty bottom 6 guys, but we have a few too many that aren't very good. If we can upgrade McKegg or Hunt at the deadline for not much investment, it's a no brainer.

Another top 6 forward is a must, however. As long as we don't overpay thinking it's cup or bust.

Agreed.
In the playoffs on the wing is how goodrow earned this contract....
Give be a Goodrow-Barron-Lehkonen
Or a Goodrow-Jarnkrok-???/Barron

that’s a bottom 6 Gallant playoff style line.

I’m against moving Rooney up, or moving Barron to 4th line..
Hunt-Rooney-Reaves has been very good for use this season. Why play with that.

Going in to playoffs
Kreids-Zibby-kakko
Panarin-Strome-LaF/Chytil
Goodrow-Barron-Lehkonen/Jarnkrok/Chytil/LaF
Hunt-Rooney-Reaves
Ex Gauthier

I won’t argue that long term the team needs another scorer. For me, I’m willing to remain patient and develop that guy. I fear trading away too many pieces too early for what would be a short term rental.

Also, we know that the Strome line really doesn’t need an all-star to be effective. Find a good 2-way gritty 3rd piece and I think they would be more effective than another skilled player.

What would it take to pry Buchnevich out of St. Louis?

Did you notice that the coach had McKegg on the ince at the end of the game last night? What does that tell you?
That he likes McKegg on the wing.
For a reason no one except Gallant seems to understand.
It’s almost as bad as howden/Quinn.
But if chytil s future is at wing, we’re a 3C light.
Unless we’re trading for 1 or he plans to play Goodrow there, Barron will remain in the mix as long as he plays well until some guys start returning

How did you not get the coaching job when it was available?
