It’s seems we are built like Boston pretty much.
You have basically 2 cores.
The older core is still competitive and can compete for the next 3-4 years at a high level and then there is a following wave.
We don’t have a Bergeron, but they don’t have a shesty.
LaF/Kakko also haven’t taken that Pasternak step in development either.
as a whole, were better off on the blue line as well as the farm.
The key now is identifying players that can help both of those cores now and in the future.

to me, Getting/signing Hertl would be like Giving Taylor Hall a big deal. It’s a mistake, and we should be looking for a younger option that’s not going to cost a lot of assets and cap hit.
That’s why the big trade Drury/NYR make likely comes in the offseason imo.
This year, add some mercenaries and try to catch some fire in the playoffs.
Don’t spend like drunken sailors at the TDL
I really have no idea what’s going to happen with Strome. Personally, I don’t want him back or have Drury do something stupid in terms of a long term deal.
Hopefully there’s a PLD type situation that arises with some team.... if/when that happens, Drury has to be all over it

Reaves doesn't have zero value, but

1) we need more skill in the lineup up top, and therefore

2) Would you rather Reaves or Blais in the remaining space in the bottom?

1) Can always use more skill but that can be done by upgrading the skill level of the skilled players we have, for instance replacing Gauth with a higher skilled player, not eliminating all but one role player.

2) False choice. Especially since Blais has grit AND skill. As does Reeves. Hitting is a legitimate hockey skill that impacts a game, and a series even more so. It’s not a choice between the two of them anywhere but in your opinion.

we are allowed to disagree you know. Hahaha.

The expensive veterans are the only guys performing and the main reason this team is at the top of the standings. Find a new slant

The main reason the team is at the top of the standings is our goaltending. So much so that it's really reason #1, #2, and #3. The fourth reason would be special teams. Our expensive veterans are performing on the powerplay, which is also a big part of our success so far--but nobody would pay 8.5-11mil for Mike Hoffman.

At five on five there isn't a forward who's been consistently good across the board other than Ryan Strome. And he's not yet an expensive vet.

Relax, Schneider has been here for a nanosecond. He’s got nothing to do with this.

Also, you say the top 4 is set. Is it? We’re all loving Miller right now? It doesn’t get any better than Ryan Lindgren? Oh, and the 3rd guy is Patrick Nemeth. NYR have room to improve on the left side. And I like 79 and 55.

Im not saying JC is a guy you go “all out” to get, but he’s a really good player on an even better contract who plays a position of need. You at the very least inquire. He gets PP2 and vastly improves you 5 on 5. He also provides insurance if you move on from Lindgren after next season.

If the ask is Chytil, VK/Nils/Jones and a 1, you’re not listening? I’d seriously consider it

I love an am satisfied with Miller and Lindgren in the top four.

Let the contrarians get all Pictchfork Media on me.

I am very happy with Miller's progression given when he was supposed to debut to where he is now in the span of one calendar year. He was not supposed to even be in the conversation until this fall at earliest.

. Agree to disagree

so I am guessing Greco and Brodzinski sit

Gettinger , Barron , aGauthier
Rooney , McKegg, Reaves
He probably does, but I don’t think Greco deserves to sit. He was great in San Jose. I’d find a spot for him.

Patrick Kane is the target for me. Chicago could almost certainly be convinced. They need to stock up and rebuild. NYR is probably one of the few places Kane would waive for. The question is...what's the cost? And how much extra to get the necessary retention (probably 50%) so Kane's contract it is affordable ($5.25M) through next season?

Would you:

Chytil
Lundkvist
Kravtsov
Georgiev
'22 1st
'22 2nd

for

Kane @ 50%
Fleury

?

Worth it to get 2 whacks at the Cup with Kane? Without losing the players labeled as most important for the next 10 years in Lafreniere, Kakko, Miller, etc?

If you take out the 2nd in 2022 and make it one in 23 I'd honestly think that over for a few hours.

Greco must really really suck (not what we saw the other night) in order for him to sit for Mckegg come on

Of course you would sit Gauthier.

Gettinger does nothing out there. Like nothing. Greco was fine. McKegg and Gettinger should be sitting. But Greco was already reassigned so its a moot point.
Yeah. Sit McKegg or Gettinger and give Greco another game. We know what we have with the other two. Take advantage of the taxi squad while we can. Need more speed in the lineup.

I’m on board with the kids from Hartford. I thought they looked like they looked like they belonged.

At the very least Schneider and Barron should be here. They’re NHLers at this point.

I have to agree. I'd definitely take Goat over Gettinger. Greco deserved another game.
